Deep in the forest of the Carpathians in Romania, a vampire is resurrected from a long slumber and wanders the mountains. Later, while her brother and father travel to Bucharest, a young girl named Karen and her mother are startled by an old, aristocratic looking man at the door seeking refuge from the weather. Karen's family is changed forever by the events that night.
