A show with great potential, ruined by it's terrible animation.

Animation: The animation of the series is by far the worse thing I have ever experienced in my 2 - 3 years watching Anime, and is the ONLY complaint I have about this show. To put it simply, there is no animation. It felt like I was watching someone play a visual novel with voice acting. It's that bad. The most "animated" parts is when the studio bothered to add a little bit of motion to the characters by adding some good S_DissolveShake (Sony Vegas Pro reference haha). It's a mere slideshow of the manga. This is by far the laziest most disappointing animation I will probably ever behold with my own eyes.
Story: The plot isn't very deep or memorable which is actually a good thing in this genre. It's about an ex-Yakuza doing things around his neighborhood. The whole gimmick is that he's intimidating and does everything in an intimidating way. Overall a nice story that makes the show interesting, although I do think that this format could get repetitive very quickly. The way the show is formatted reminds me of the anime Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san in which each episode consists of multiple, short stories. I enjoyed the segments where we got to see his cat go for a walk around the neighborhood, it was always nice to see that.
Characters: Our main character Tatsu is a nice character because of how he handles things. He does things in an intimidating way, similar to how a Yakuza would do it. Out of all of the cast he's the one that stands out the most. Of course the other characters do an excellent job too. The other character that stands out the most to me is probably his friend/former subordinate Masa. He see him very early on in the Anime and soon becomes a frequent recurring character. He treats Tatsu like he's still his boss even after their group disbanded which I think made for some pretty funny scenarios.
Final Thoughts: I think that Gokushufudo gave me a few laughs here and there and the story is really nice. The thing holding this anime back is the animation. I can't even call this an "Anime" when it feels like I'm reading a manga that automatically turns the page. Don't let the bad animation discourage you from wanting to watch this show though. If you think that the story seems captivating or interesting, feel free to watch it! Just... don't have your expectations too high. If this show had standard animation I would've given it a higher rating, close to around 6 - 7. I know I've mentioned this in my review countless times but I'm astonished on how this even got the heads up to be distributed.
I'll definitely consider reading the manga due to the story captivating me.
