[SPOILERS AHEAD]
Getting into Domestic Girlfriend was very easy due to the wonderful art, realistic character developments, and the pacing and the structure of the manga. The manga was going smoothly from start to until chapter 250 or before the big "
5 year timeskip". I wasn't disappointed when I first read this manga from chapter 1 to chapter 250 , I was even wondering why people hated this manga so much.
I understood that fact after I read the ending which I will be going into further detail through the course of this review.
Pacing
- The pacing of this manga was decent and can be read by someone new to manga, It is very comfortable to read, it's not too fast nor too slow. Reading a lot of romance mangas even before I discovered anilist, some were almost too fast to the point that readers question as to what happened. This is not a problem for veteran readers because we tend to go with the flow, this fact is different for new readers.
- There are some points in the manga where the pacing was way too fast. A perfect example of this is the ending or the famous 5 year timeskip which became the downfall to this manga in my opinion. The pacing of the ending was way to fast to the point where I wondered what happened in between and how those things happened.
Character Development
- The character development is also a topic which needs to be discussed. In my opinion the character that embodies this idea the most is Hina. She went to loving Natsuo as a lover and wanting to be with him to her loving him because she just wants him to be happy. Which is a very big difference in the subject of love, in all of the characters in the manga she was the one that changed the most in terms of love. This was shown when Marie or the cafe owner of L'mant or the cafe which natsuo, hina and rui keeps on going to told natsuo about the changes to hina's love.
- Based on Marie Hina went from wanting to be lovers even if it means "dying" with natsuo to her giving everything up to not ruin natsuo's dream to her getting jealous when rui stole natsuo from her to the point that she tried to forget about natsuo but was not able to and decided that she would live her life by his side even if she wasn't happy.
- Another person to discuss is everyone's favorite girl: Rui. She also had her own development throughout the manga. She went from being a shy girl or an introvert to a person who can talk to people well at the end of the manga. She embodies the idea of growth, or growth of a person, from being an introvert to being a person who can talk to others without trouble.
Art
- The art of this manga is very impressive not only because of its nude drawings but as a whole. The art style is very similar to the anime which makes reading very comfortable when you started the anime before reading the manga.
Setting
- The Setting of the manga is similar to every other romance anime. But the setting is not only held in Japan but also features places in America(When Rui practices cooking abroad). This change of setting is a pleasant break to the readers. It gives the readers a chance to see how the characters would behave in a foreign country.
Antagonists
- The Villains of this manga contribute heavily to the growth of the characters especially HIna, Natsuo and Rui.
- The first one is Tanabe, the stalker of Hina. He is one of my most hated characters in Domestic Kanojo, but he also contributed to the growth of Hina. He made her realize that she couldn't just forget Natsuo, making her love him more than ever.
- The second one is Ben, the racist. Ben made Rui realize what Natsuo felt when he couldn't write anymore. This made her regret leaving him which was a bad move. She thought that she should leave Natsuo because she thought she was hurting him and needed time alone. This changed when she lost her sense of taste because of Ben's abuse and harassment. Ben's abuse made her realize that she should've stayed by Natsuo's side when he couldn't write and this made her love him more than before.

Ending: Where Everything went Downhill
- The most important thing to talk about in this manga is the ending. Its one of the worst endings I have encountered to the point that it just ruins the manga entirely.
__ Why did the ending ruin everything?
__
- Before the ending Rui and Natsuo promised to each other that they would live together and from this point it already seemed like Rui and Natsu would be married. This in my opinion would be a better ending but instead at the end Rui backed bown to Natsuo's marriage proposal because she felt inferior to Hina. This happened because Rui overheard Marie's confession about what Hina was enduring. This made Rui feel as if she was inferior to Hina, making her back down to Natsuo's marriage even though they already have a child and got the permission of their parents.
- The marriage of Natsuo and Hina felt forced in my opinion. Natsuo married Hina because Rui suggested it and Natsuo wanted to live his life for her. This felt forced for me because before the big timeskip Rui and Natsuo already loved each other and Hina accepted that fact and just wanted them to be happy. The ending did the opposite, making Hina and Natsuo get back together while Rui raising the child of Natsuo and wishing for both of them to be happy.
