I don’t know why I paused a lot watching Demon Slayer within the first 9 episodes, but damn I hate how I didn’t watch it without pausing it so I could watch this movie sooner. This movie is so good. And there have been a lot of people talking about this movie and giving a lot of praise, and it definitely deserves it. Obviously, go watch this movie IF YOU HAVE SEEN THE 26 EPISODE SERIES SINCE THE MOVIE STARTS RIGHT WHERE IT ENDED!! And this is a spoiler-free review, don’t worry.Starting right off, the animation is absolutely breathtaking and so gorgeous to look at, and I am a sucker for animation, and just off the first opening shot with the trees (image below) I genuinely thought this was live action, and a lot of people see the same.
The animation is so beautiful for the most part, as there is some CGI animation used in the movie, and while they work well together, they might look a bit off, at least for me, and this was most notable inside the train (if you seen this movie, you know what I am talking about). And the fighting animations, especially the final battle, are very well made and animated and I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen. Now I heard that the experience with the animation is a lot better in a movie theater, which I would love to experience, I couldn’t see for myself unfortunately since I rather be safe and not get sick, but if you are able to go outside and the pandemic has eased up or you’re vaccinated during these times, go watch it in theaters if you can.
Is there something else to love besides the animation? Hell Yeah, this movie has great characters! The movie picks off right where the anime finished so the main demon of this movie is basically already established from episode 26, and one thing I loved about the original 26 episode series is how they give a background and past to every single notable hero or villain/demon at the time, so giving a backstory to some of these new characters made me love this movie even more. Even some of the passengers of the train have some notable moments that make me feel empathy for and makes me understand why they do what they do.
What about the story? Also great! I love how the Mugen Train Arc was set as a movie and not fleshed out over several episodes for a season, because doing so will ruin the pacing of the arc in my opinion. Speaking of which, the pacing in this movie is incredible and once it gets intense and starts the fights, it does not slow down for the rest of the movie, so again ,glad the arc was a movie to keep this pacing. The story would not have worked well if it wasn’t for the pacing to connect these points together.
So yeah, “Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train” definitely deserves the praise and hype it got recently. I really enjoyed this film and I highly recommend to everyone to watch this movie (as long as you have seen the 26 episode series first). 9/10 Would watch again soon
