One Piece is by far my favorite anime, manga and work. Even so, it is impossible to deny that the anime does not stand out as much as the manga, despite, in the current arc, Wano, the animation, rhythm and all the others aspects are impeccable.
However, the anime adaptation of One Piece, sins at various times, especially after the timeskip. Very slow pace, which makes many people (like me, a while ago) discouraged from watching the anime, as these rhythm problems are really boring. I don't think anyone should watch One Piece for that reason, because as I said, even with all these and others problems, it’s certainly the best work I’ve ever seen. Incredible and diverse characters, racism, transphobia, corruption and other very delicate subjects being treated in the work, making many people open your eyes on these matters, which are of paramount importance today.
Other problems like unnecessary sexualization of female characters, as well as doing them always the same way and being weaker characters that practically always need help, it also bothers me a little. It's okay for you to want to play characters to a certain standard, but playing them as helpless girls is really unnecessary. One Piece still has a lot to learn in these aspects, because it’s something that’s really not really cool on the show. But I believe that Eiichiro Oda is increasingly learning from mistakes and learning new things, and in the future we should see incredible, strong, powerful and of course, beautiful girls too.
As for issues like transphobia and racism, I think One Piece really opens the eyes of a lot of people on this subject, because, like it or not, many people still don't know how much it can affect people. Creating transsexual characters, gay characters, and using metaphors for a way to combat racism, even if only within the anime, is something that Oda does very well. It's amazing how he manages to create cool, captivating, powerful characters with all these characteristics, making everyone (or most people), both open their eyes to these subjects, how much to encourage those people who always suffer from these abuses and prejudices, to have more courage to move on, and to see a character you love fighting these things, certainly should give a very great mood for people who are fans of One Piece, and who suffer that kind of thing.
I must thank One Piece for being such an incredible anime, it really motivates me to live. One Piece it certainly changed my life, making me know things I didn't know, made me motivated to continue to fight in this anime called life. Thank you, One Piece.
