Bastard

Bastard is a story about Jin Seon, a teenager who is bullied in school, has various disabilites and doesn't have any friends. None of that bothers him though, due to him having much bigger problems at home, namely his father being a serial killer, and Jin himself being an accomplice.

Story:
At the beginning of the story Jin is being bullied by his classmates, and while being beaten he passes out and is saved by a new transfer student, a girl named Kyun. While being visited in the hospital, Kyun catches his father's eye, due to being just the type of girl that he murders. Throughout the story we see Jin trying to protect her while growing feelings for her, while getting trained by Manny, a classmate who previously bullied him, so gets strong enough to confront his father. The story is written expertly, and foreshadows the outcome that awaits the characters at the end of their endeavour.

In order to keep his secret safe, Jin's father kills everyone that gets too close to his son. He kills Manny's parents and maims him through a staged traffic accident (and later outright kills him), and end's up kidnapping Kyun leading to the final conflict between Jin and his father, leading to the reveal that Jin himself enjoyed the murders he and his father commited, and even more importantly, that his father truly loves him. At the end of the story Jin's father kills himself, Jin turns himself in to the police and serves his sentence, awaiting the day when he is free and with Kyun.

____ Characters: While Bastard does not have many important characters, the ones that are in the story are deep and multilayered characters

Jin Seon, the main character of the story, is a teenager who has a glass eye,artificial heart valves and metal bolts on his bones. He has a calm demeanor and is quite asocial due to the fear of his father murdering anyone who gets close to him. Still during the story he befriends Kyun and even his bully Manny.

Throughout the story we occasionally see his inner psychotic nature that he has in common with his father.

Dong Seon, Jin's father, is a CEO of a big company, and often helps strangers and the elderly altruistically, but we very soon learn that he is a serial killer while maintaing a good public image. He murders women that remind him of his wife. Due to the hardships hee meets trying not to get caught, he has his son assist him.

At the end of the we learn that the true reason he has Jin help him with his murders is that he truly loves his son, and finds the experience serve as father-son bonding.

Kyun Joon is a new transfer student, and Jin's love interest. She is from a poor home, living with just her ill grandfather. Her parents died while she was young, leaving her in great debt. During the story she helps Jin get his courage and not stray from the proper path of living.

Manny Kim is Jin's bully and later on friend. His attitude of beating everyone down around him stems from his childhood, where he himself was bullied for the sins of his father, a ruthless CEO of a company that left a lot of workers jobless. He is befriended by Jin due to the latter being unafraid of him.

While Manny was on a roadtrip with family, Jin's father staged an accident which left Manny's parents dead, sister in a coma and him with amputated legs. He later tries to pursue Jin's father, because of which he gets killed by him.

Art:
While the series is not extremely detailed,it is very unique due to the atmospheric greys and browns. The characters look somewhat generic but the panicked and horrified faces show real emotion in the intense scenes.

Conclusion:
Bastard is a unique story,from the setup to the ending. And i can wholeheartedly suggest reading it.
