Skip to the end for best girl opinion.
I remember hearing people complain about how Monogatari has a panty shot in the first 3 seconds, and people going back and forth about whether or not the panty shot is important to the story and when is fanservice acceptable in anime. This was my introduction to Monogatari.
I decided to watch it because lots of people kept recommending it to me, and I have to say, I quite enjoyed it. If I had watched this anime as one of my first anime ever, I would have hated it because of the fanservice scenes it has, but they don't bother me anymore.
I really appreciate that the main character Muraragi gets together with the love interest in the first few episodes, so that arc is over and done with, and we can get into the more interesting story, what goes into a relationship.
I absolutely love how the show is stylized, randomly switching from the standard 2D animation to the characters suddenly becoming paper figures or background characters being portrayed by real people. The show manages to blend these styles together at once and it never bothered me once.
Another thing that captivated me in this show was the dialogue. While watching the show, throughout my entire watch experience I felt like every piece of dialogue was important and worth paying attention to, even going back to listen to something a character said again. Even when two characters were talking about simple everyday things or teasing each other I never got bored of the endless talking. I have heard that the jokes in Monogatari are difficult to understand because they are mostly Japanese jokes, but there were a couple that I understood just from listening to the characters pronunciation.I also adore how every character has their own opening song when it is their turn to have their character arc and is even sung by the voice actress herself. There isn't a single opening that I disliked, maybe Kanbaru's opening is the worst one for me, but I still like it. If I had to pick a favorite opening, it would probably be Renai Circulation or Kaerimichi, but it is hard for me to choose. My favorite character arc would most likely be Hachikuji's, because I really liked the twist that Senjougahara was pretending to see Hachikuji the entire time, to the point where I rewatched those 3 episodes just to pay more attention to how Senjougahara was behaving, and it put all of her actions in a new light. I also just like Hachikuji as a character in general and the back and forth dialogue between her and Ararararararararagi.
There was not a single character that I disliked, other than Kanbaru, but not because she is a badly-written character, I just find her a bit annoying. I have no opinions on Shinobu because she is not a character in this season, and I know she becomes one later on, so that is why I am completely neutral on her for now. Aside from that, I really liked every character in this show, especially Meme Oshino.
All in all, the only reason I am not giving this show a perfect 100 is because I have high expectations for the next seasons and know that it can get better, so I am looking forward to it.
Anyway, best girl is obviously Senjougahara, thanks for reading, or skipping all the way here.
