this review may contain huge spoilers. be aware.
this is the manga that breaks down the top sales for two years straight. this is the manga that later adapted to a movie that could rival the sales of james cameron's titanic. this is the manga that has a really huge fanbase and among the most hated ones. THIS is the manga that normies would actually like to read. all for its popularity.
i wonder did it pay off?
how much price shall be paid, and all that shit?
i am one of those persistent guys, one of those who wont give up reading a manga that had a little potential to get good i've read through houshin engi, tenkuu shinpan, noblesse and those sort of thing. some of it pays off. some of it are something that i would spend my time watching art of the zoo instead. but demon slayer, is the one that made me STOPPED.
thats how special it is.
alright lets be positive, ill start with the good parts of it. demon slayer is built to be somewhat chill, and serious aaand i liked the cheer parts of it i guess? the usual training days, the choreography was so-so but to introduce with the other characters like the hashiras and their intents and the test of will, and other usual cliched things like that.and also the last chapter, i mean its quite obvious they look like they would milk the series but likewise this is quite an innovative measure the author took, the look of what happened centuries after the war with the demons, its creative and all. i also liked the fact that the author's art gets better and better after 50 chapters long and no literal double page spread has been attempted. but i am glad they tried, and sucessful at that even, its not that charming. but it had the kick. im quite glad the author did not waste her chance in this part.

alright, all-right, aww-right. lets get to the real part. i hated this manga, if only i was 5 years younger i might enjoy it for sure. and i bet it isnt just me. this manga is extremely repeatable, the fights are using the same formula over and over
fight em > give sad backstory > do an asspull > win, or die > repeat.
or worse, fight em > do an asspull > win, or die > repeat.
i am now going to explain it in brief.... or not.
note : if check = follows the formula i mentioned. if cross = tries to do something different or unique and non-repeatable one.

that took an effort for sure, i could be wrong at some parts, thank you demon slayer fandom!
now lets do the math check.
counted that there are 23 checks in total and 12 crosses in total, which means that 23 battles in total are proved to be contained ass-pull, low effort, repeatable, yet cliche, and a pain to go through. and 12 battles that are quite took an effort to write for sure.
put a dying gimmick as for an unknown dying man because your main character just kicked his ass, and now he's dying. what should i do?
____OH RIGHT! DRAMA!
WE HAVE TO INSERT SOME DRAMA SO MY WORK CAN BE COMPARABLE TO THE LORD OF THE RINGS!!____
"frustrated that he lost, and recalls his past as a human. and he dies"
"....remembers his mother's motivating words about his family. and he later dies"
"his family congratulating him on a job well done in his consciousness. and he dies after that"
"Why do I exist... Tell me... brother. gives an answer, then he died in peace"
BAM! NOW CRY! I DONT PLAN FOR THIS BEFOREHAND BUT IM SURE IT WILL WORK!
uhm~, isnt it basically an ass-pull? an unplanned drama that even kids would write in the middle of the day-dreaming sun, a mockery to the whole drama-verse especially for a best-selling series?

damn dude, even a wattpad fanfic can do better than this.
and we reached the training arc. everything was going chill and all. and all the troops are recovered about 80%. without a recovery speech like a proper super american general yee-haa, it sure was going pretty chill and things could go on longer this way. but damn, ubuyashiki tries to murder muzan. by a bomb?! dude its like ur telling ur troops to go to chernobyl without a fucking gas mask, are you sure they are fully prepared?!
plot : ah, they will win anyways. we dont have much chapter left also the author got some family business to do.
a-asspull? AGAIN?
foreshadowing and an asspull. ah yes, the two opposite realms. the heaven and the earth, the tea and the piss, the fallout new vegas and fallout 76. it is a twisted, wicked relations they have within each other. they are made to prevent each other, destroy each other, and wage an infinite blood year war. demon slayer is one of the participants within this disastrous event. the lack creativity of story, lore, and fantasy. yes, fantasy. it lacked alot that a good fantasy will need, it lacked alot that a good fiction will need. and it lacked alot of intent to take a risk and go beyond the line. and your solution is adding a sudden drama when theres a person who is going to die, instead of doing it forehand to amplify the shock value?
i dont know how people would cry digesting this series through the manga and not the anime. if i have another incarnation of myself in another realm that is destined to have a shit taste and cry while reading demon slayer, then the first thing my original self would do is to find a way to self reincarnate to my other self and force him to swallow all his tears back into his intestines for the better good. this shit hit hard, man. it truly hit hard. and i would swallow an atomic bomb rather than having a shit like this.
this manga isnt a contest of bawling tears, its a contest to wipe your ass in the worst possible time.

and here i was, a 15 year old-kid wandering around google in my timebreaks during 10am with a 20-minute time limit, i had this chance to read the demon slayer wiki, or to be exact, koyoharu gotouge's wiki. and i found a super interesting article :
"After Haeniwa no Zigzag failed to be a serialized series, Tatsuhiko Katayama (Gotouge's first editor) suggested to start a series with an "easy-to-understand theme". Gotouge's debut work Kagarigari would serve as a basis for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba."
"easy-to-understand theme"
and that, my friends, is the mastermind behind the one of the one-thousand things that japan would disappoint you. the one of the one-thousand chance for japan to ruin my enthusiasm to read through a manga with the will of believing "this manga is trash, but ill finish it, i hope it can become better! like houshin engi!"
yes, i was never the same kid the moment i finish it. i had to cope by playing fallout 3 at the moment and thank god it pays off.
conclusion : regarding the question of the first paragraph, i can conclude it for you. it doesnt. it does not. it d-o-e-s_n-o-t. it does NOT pay off. but hey, i get to play fallout 3 after finishing this, yay! truly 9/10 game.
now i wonder how many dislikes i will get. i am dying of curiosity.
