Although I prefer light-hearted Animes, this one really made me question my preferences. Everything was well thought out. I find the Sci-Fi concept very interesting too, since I'm not that familiar with this genre. One thing this Anime did really well was the character set up. We have our main team who is fighting against SERN, an organization whose researches are on the possibility of human time traveling using cruel methods. Although the concept of a main character trying to turn back time over and over again to save someone is pretty outdated, this one really made me rethink about all of my assumptions and opinions. The heaviness that I felt was just overwhelming. Seeing how Rintarō tried to achieve his goal over and over again without any success really made me anxious and frustrated. Still, I just couldn't stop watching it, even though it didn't make me feel well. That's how good this Anime is. Also, the romantic relationship between Rintarō and Kurisu made me bawl my eyes out. I usually find straight romance boring, but this time it was like an escape from all the heaviness I have witnessed while enjoying this masterpiece.
The music in the intro as well as in the outro matched the theme of this show very well.
(1) The intro has a very upbeat and catchy song. Moreover, the eerie visuals gave it a little more depth which I really like.
(2) The outro on the other hand was definitely calmer than the intro. The pitches and the composition of this song reminded me of a typical Sci-Fi song. In addition to that, it was kept very simple with very few elements of animation.
Rintaro Okabe - At first I really thought he had a split personality. I didn't know if what he was doing was just a play or not. So therefore, he creeped me out a little bit at the beginning. As the Anime progresses, you get to see more sides of Rintarō. His struggles, worries, passion and his past, which made him a lot more likable. Also his righteousness and self-less acts surely makes him admirable.
Kurisu Makise - Love her to death. That's really all I can say. Since the beginning, seeing her at University outsmarting the arrogant Rintarō made me laugh so much. She's a tsundere which is a plus point.
Mayuri Shiina - I would literally give her my left kidney. Such an innocent but also wise character with her cheerful comments and bubbly aura. A very important character in this show which absence would make the team dynamic crumble.
Suzuha Amane- She was like the little sister of everyone in this group, though with deadly fighting skills. I also love her character design. Moreover, she is someone who I hold very dearly in my heart.
Itaru Hashida - At first he was like a typical Otaku who corresponded to all the stereotypes. As the show progresses, you get to see a more deeper view into his character and his thinking process overall. His morals and the comedic comments he makes in nearly every episode, makes him one of my favorite Steins;Gate characters.
Luka Urushibara - Very interesting person. Never knew they would include a trans character. She is so kind and wholesome.
Moeka Kiryū - In the beginning, I was very suspicious of her, rightly so. I couldn't stand her because she was on SERN's side. After getting to know her more, I began to adore her. She's just a very shy and weird girl with a tragic backstory.
Faris Nyan Nyan- The thing with her father made me so sad. She is normally such a cute and cheerful girl, but seeing her being sad like that really made my heart ache. Overall a nice character that contributes a lot to our team.
To end this review, it's very clear to say that 'Steins;Gate' definitely deserves the title "One of the best Sci-Fi Animes there is". Its very dark and melancholic vibe made the show really mysterious. The plot was very complex and plot holes where pretty much non existent. It's a well thought out story with solid animation. I recommend everyone to watch it. You don't have to be a Sci-Fi fan or anything to enjoy such a masterpiece.
