A nameless protagonist, referred to as Watashi, has just entered college, and the story more or less follows his many lives and many misfortunes. Each episode starts with Watashi pursuing something insane or stupid - like a "rose-colored campus life" or "raven-haired maidens" and in each episode, his effort ends miserably and he was unknowingly sent back to the beginning of his college life to start over with a different path. Along Watashi's trip across the Tatami Galaxy, you're introduced to many different people, and in each life, a different story unfolds. Each story is unrelated other than by starting the same way at first glance, but you'll start noticing some patterns, and eventually, it brings you to an impressive, thought-provoking, and satisfying ending.
Story: 10/10 (masterpiece)
“What if this”, “What if that”
I am sure all of you have asked this question at some point in your life. The choices that we made is the theme of this incredible show. The butterfly effect of a small and seeming mundane choice. The storytelling of this anime is unique, a rare gem is not an exaggeration. Its 11 episodes work like a puzzle that fits together into a wonderful picture in the end. The show is also very dialogue-heavy but these dialogues are never boring and held powerful meaning. It is sophisticated, very refined.
Character: 9/10 (Great)
Each and every one of the characters is unique and they represent the kind of people we will meet in life. Through these characters, the anime communicate the fact that not only the choices WE made are important, but also the people AROUND us. Humans are social creatures and our environment inevitably affects us and even defines us.
Art & Sound: 10/10 (masterpiece)
I love love love the creativity of these Japanese authors and producers.
The art of this show is UNIQUE. It is unlike anything you have seen, wack, but really really good. The sound is also top-notch.
Enjoyment: 8/10 (Very Good)
Genre: Mystery, Comedy, Psychological, Romance
It is very enjoyable. The show doesn’t drag and it is entertaining throughout. It is full of sophisticated humor. Although there are a few that I don’t quite understand because I am not Japanese, most of them are very entertaining. I do warn you this show has a ton of dialogues that requires you your full attention on reading the sub. Welcome to the refined art of the anime universe.
Overall: 9/10 (Great)
An anime that can create a macrocosm within itself is an anime to be trifled with. It sets the stage with brilliant characters and visuals, brings hilarious moments throughout, and manages to deliver numerous meaningful messages. Is there a perfect world? Will I be happier with more money and women? Will I be happier doing what people say I should? Yeah. It's pretty damn complex. It's as thought-provoking as Perfect Blue while bringing the comedy of Love is War. Gold, very glad I found this show. Highly recommend it, only 11 episodes, light work but a great reward!
