Mushoku Tensei is an anime that brings you into a beautiful setting and generally nice looking world. A world of course with humans, monsters, and magic. It is very nice to look at to say the least. The animators put a lot of love in the first few episodes. It does not take long however for the first signs of what truly holds this show back immensely that I find it really odd that everyone else does not hold the author and studio accountable for. The degeneracy of the main character even as a newborn child to the end of the second season where it just becomes pedophile garbage.
On one half, I feel like I am getting a fantastic world with a simple plot to follow. On the other, I feel like the FBI is gonna speed-run raid all of those who watch this anime. Literally backwards long jumping, PU Aligning their way to an arrest warrant. The first red flag immediately is the age of which this world considers the age of adulthood (15 in Mushoku Tensei). That needs no further explanation.
The second comes in as Rudeus Greyrat as a main character, which the show tries in stride to make you take seriously. The backstory of the previous life of Rudeus, the conversations with the God of Humanity(Man-God), minor flashbacks all come into play of what Rudeus is genuinely trying to achieve for himself. The other aspect of Rudeus as a character is his perverted side. There is an endless amount of comedy scenes involving the perverted antics of Rudeus from early on in the series, to the implicated sex with Eris at the end of the 2nd season. There is so much of it that it is immensely tiring. The anime attempts to have it both ways, being comedic and serious for one character, but makes the author just come off as a sex offender. This not only undermines Rudeus as a character, but introduces an antagonism from the conflict of material , physical decisions the character makes, which the show revolves around. The antagonism is the conflict between the attempted moments of "humor", versus the genuinely relatable and real aspect of Rudeus. That of bullying, alienation, abuse, and the lack of a proper support system during his life at high school. Rudeus's rise above his past to become someone he can be proud comes crashing into conflict with the major antagonistic force existing in the MC like an immortal zombie.
This antagonism and morally shitty part of the anime is what killed the shows potential to be something great.
Aside from that, here is what makes Mushoku Tensei beautiful. The adventure itself! The conflict between Superds and the rest of the world. The fusion of bubbly fun and also cruelty of the world. The growth of the main cast as people trying to understand one another on their journey back home. The animation in combat and training. Ghislaine as a character and design. Ruijerd Superdia's progress and his fight to clear his name. That is what makes this show great.
P.S Music was forgettable.
