Demon slayer's story is nothing ground breaking to say the least. I can explain the entire story in little more than 4 words; kill demons, save sister. That is practically all there is to Demon Slayer's story, nothing more, nothing less.
A story like this is very hard to mess up, so of course it will be executed decently well. And no, a story does not need to be multifaceted or complex to be good, but it does at least need something to keep the audience engaged with the overarching narrative to at least be considered better than average, otherwise the audiences attachment to the series is merely superficial.
In short: Demon Slayer does nothing to engage the audience with the story.
The story is also filled to the brim with plot conveniences and deus ex machinas. I'll list just one of many examples: At the end of this season the entire city was blown to smithereens completely, a nuke basically detonated, buildings were even completely erased from the face of the earth and, surprise, surprise, all the characters survived with no major injuries. And of course if all the main characters died, there would be no more story, but the issue is, why even put the characters into such an unnecessary circumstance in the first place? - For shock value? It seems so... A lot of things this season more so than the first season seem to happen just to shock the audience, without any regard to how much the author has to tarnish their writing to do so.

I personally didn't like any of the characters, I'll rank them on a scale of "Most Annoying" to "Least Annoying":
Most Annoying
Least Annoying
I've only listed the "main" characters who have somewhat had their chances to "shine". Tanjirou is a very good Shonen protagonist, I will say that, he doesn't hesitate to get his hands dirty and isn't hot headed like most protagonists in this genre, so he was a nice change of pace. I will complain that there is next to no character development in this anime.
