Bubble is a movie that I've known about for quite a while now ever since I watched the trailer a couple of months ago and because I thought it looked really unique I decided to watch it. I can definitely say that this movie isn't for everyone and if you go in expecting too much you'll most likely be disappointed. I however, was just looking for something that I could pass some time with and this movie did its job very well.
--- A few years ago Tokyo was engulfed by a huge bubble that caused destruction, floods and gravitational phenomena, but despite all that, some kids still decide to live here doing parkour for a living, despite the risks. They compete in competitions called Tokyo Battlekour, where teams of 5 have to work together to reach the goal first. The winner gets the other team's supplies. All in all, this is a pretty cool concept and they manage to keep every competition interesting by adding some new twist here and there.
What makes this movie special though, is the art and animation. Every single frame just looks beautiful, the animation and movements are incredibly fluid and they make great use of CGI in the backgrounds.
Another thing I loved about this movie is its atmosphere. Not only does it look beautiful the music accompanying the movie throughout its runtime is also really good and fits each scene nicely. There's one certain song that gets repeated multiple times during the movie which I like a lot but I'm not going to spoil anything so I'll leave it at that.
I believe the reason that this movie's score is pretty low, is because its lacking in the story and character department. While I enjoyed the movie for what it is, I do think it could've been a lot better, if it was maybe 30 minutes longer and they used that time to flesh out the characters and story a little more. The characters aren't necessarily bad, neither is the story, but it's simply nothing that hasn't been done before in one way or another. The most obvious example would be Weathering with you; take away the parkour from this movie and they're basically the same thing.
--- In the end, this is a beautiful looking movie, with a mediocre story, but one that managed to keep me entertained nonetheless. I think this is one of those movies that you might end up loving if you watch it with the right mindset, but that obviously differs from person to person. It worked for me though, which is why I'm giving it a:
