When I tell you I had been holding off this anime for the longest time and I really regret it (I always thought it looked boring)
Here's a brief summary: this is a really good time travel thriller about a mad scientist named Hououin Kyouma who keeps travelling back in time to try and change fate in order to save his best friend, Mayuri. There are so many heart wrenching but well done scenes, if you don't mind a slow starting I definitely recommend this anime.

Now for a more in depth review, first of all, the opening. Absolute banger it's amazing, I love how it's got really dull colours and the way it's put together is just really unique and I really like watching it (especially that one bit with Makise where she just has her arm out).
(there's a quite a few spoilers from here so if you don't want that I recommend you stop reading this)
The first 6 episodes are so slowly paced and even though they're part of the storyline they're somewhat irrelevant. They're pretty useful though too because it introduced a few of the characters too like Daru-kun and the amazing Mayushii (best girl in my opinion) she's such an adorable airhead, I also love the gel-bananas they kept making. so yes, even though the first 6 episodes aren't the best and are kind of fillers but please do watch them, make sure to soldier through because it really builds up.
Then after that (episode 7-11) it isn't really filler anymore, the storyline starts to build up more, for example those threats Okabe started receiving from that unknown person on his phone. These episodes slowly started putting pieces together which really helped me understand what was going on because at first I was quite confused. The pacing speeds up a bit, still slow for my personal liking but a lot better than before. They also put in quite a bit of character and relationship development which I really liked, especially between Okabe and Makise. She's definitely a tsundere, I also liked the Feyris development and the way Ruka-Chan managed to become a girl like she wanted.
Then episode 12 just dropped in like a bomb I wasn't expecting that at all, the way Moeka-san betrayed them and turned out to be a member of SERN- like yes I admit she gave off sketchy vibes from the start, but a member of SERN? Amazing but scary plot twist right there but why did she have to kill my precious Mayushii.
I really love how well done the storyline is done after is gets good at episode 12, sadness, grief, trauma.. They're all portrayed so well and it really presents how everyone's lives are intertwined with each other and how one little change in the past can completely change your life. The pain Okabe goes through to save Mayushii, how Moeka-san is really a member of SERN, how Feyris's D-mail was to save her father, the way Suzuha is really from the future- it's such an intricate and careful thought out storyline that just makes the whole anime so much more deeper and gives it so much more meaning. It really shows how important relationships are and how you should cherish everyone close to you because they won't always be there.
After episode 12 I really like how Okabe went back in time to save mayushii it really shows their close bond with each other and just how much he cares for her ❤ but then when he upset Mayushii because she was confused, my heart :( and when she died the second time I just lost it. The amount of times Mayushii died was actually heartbreaking especially when the kid pushed her onto the railway.Okabe is actually such a strong person for persevering and trying his best to save Mayushii.
I'm gonna try not to get into too much depth now and just finish this review. The amount of plot twists in this is absolutely mind blowing and they create such a masterpiece, like the whole thing with Suzu-san and her father was a really good part of the story that just made it that much deeper- I seriously never thought is was Daru-kun and the way she was really a time traveller and how she tried to change the future- it was all so beautifully done.
I really like how Okabe's initial mission was to save Mayushii but in the process ended up doing so much more, like you could tell there was serious development when Okabe finally stopped calling Kurisu by the name Christina.

in conclusion, if you want a really good time travel thriller anime that's amazing at portraying all kinds of feelings and emotions and if you don't really mind a slow build up then I highly recommend this anime, I cant wait to start season 2. ^^
