Introduction Domestic Girlfriend is an anime that surely did things right...on the music part at least. Its a shame that a well done like that opening, not only music-wise, but regarding the animation and cinematography as well, didn't get an anime that it deserves. Even though I'm pretty sure that wasn't the intention, it feels like the creators tried to bait us with some well done music then realised that making this anime wasn't a good idea and kinda...took it as a joke. But let's see why's that below. ____ Story (6/20) The story basically starts with your typical idiotic main character and he pretty much ugh- bumps into a girl that wants to bang him, so he does, with no denial at all, and then they just decide to forget it. This guy also has a crush on his teacher. How thoose are connected? Well...those two girls are sisters and his father gets married with their mother. What a coincidence. After that...well im not sure what happened. Everyone is being equally stupid, getting with the person who they wanna get with then breaking up then getting with another person...the first two times it wasnt that bad...but after some time it got boring. The main characters don't know what they want and one of them is a full grown teacher. Although, I have to say there were moments or even episodes that I enjoyed when ugh...the main characters did things other than having relationship problems. Especially when Rui, the younger sister interacted with someone, i personally found her a fairly good character. About the ending...it was great. It left me satisfied. Or at least I thought it did...they destroyed their decent ending...on purpose....they tried to make it dramatic and teach us a life lesson that wasn't even there. The idea was there and it could've been a decent romance drama with some uniqueness but they took that and threw it out the window. That didn't keep me from enjoying some part of it, just because im dramatic though, and I liked how they all suffered at times, and also the romance was a guilty pleasure here and there. ____ Characters (5/20) The characters were...interesting 'd say if i wanted to lie to myself. They were all so basic it physically hurt. The stupid main character that gets girls somehow...the kind girl...the tsundere...the even kinder girl...everything was there. But it wasn't even done good. Everyone was all over the place and it felt like they developed backwards. They took the drama genre a bit too seriously. No-one had even a little brain at all everyone just tried to make the write choices on their love path and somehow managed to destroy everything. Rui was the only character with some potential, I enjoyed the time she was on screen since she wasn't that plain and actually tried to be a good character.
But again, she was nothing incredible, just reached that line of the average. Animation (16/20) The animation was fairly good if I'm being honest. The flow was neat and aesthetically pleasing, the colours were okay, and the job done on the animation of the opening was amazing. I personally didn't love the art style but i still appreciate the job that was put into it, and feel sorry that the general outcome wasn't any better than that. Also the designs weren't the best the line-art was some times weird.
Sound (20/20) The sound of this anime was awesome. It set the vibe perfectly and by watching the opening you thought you were getting into a romance masterpiece. The music was just so overwhelming and made you feel things about this anime that weren't even there. I tried and I'm still trying to like this anime, just for the sake of this opening, because i feel like the vibe that the creators were trying to pass was the vibe of this opening, even though they failed miserably. Also, besides the opening, the voice acting was well done as well, and reached the standards for the voice acting of a romance-slice of life anime. World Building (?/?) I won't rate the world building of this anime, since this is an slice of life type of anime we are talking about so having a good world building and something greater than a normal town is unnecessary.
Enjoyment (5/20) This anime, as I mentioned before, is more like a guilty pleasure anime. Most people by watching it know they arent going to see anything incredible, so they just watch it for a good laugh by seeing some stupid drama, Basically, watch it if you feel like being a drama queen. But keep in mind, the music of this anime should be taken seriously. Adding up, 6+5+16+20+5=52
