Based on my experience, watching Tunnel to Summer without knowing any storyline & its trailer, I am so sorry to say, no, I did not like this movie one bit!
A schoolboy meets a schoolgirl at the railway station and gives her an umbrella. Typical start to a romance to be honest. And they seemed like they were cute together but.. Honestly I did not really care for it.
Honestly, where do I even begin with this review?
The movie, in general, was so very very hard to understand and it got boring after a while because well, nothing made sense at all.
The romance portrayed in the film was mediocre at best, unless there were some remarkable aspects that were lost on me due to the lack of translations. For instance, there were no subtitles provided for the text messages and emails, which were probably crucial for understanding the movie. It was actually so annoying, many times, my boyfriend and I stopped the movie to complain about this, but we proceeded on HOPING to make sense of this disaster. He was very frustrated with it, but I was very hopeful trying to continue to watch the movie.
Honestly, subtitles are such a big part of understanding movies and animes in general. So, we found the subtitles to be very distracting and hindered our ability to enjoy the movie thoroughly. Instead of being completely immersed in the story, my boyfriend and I struggled to decipher and make sense of the incoherent sentences presented on the screen. Consequently, the movie became nearly unwatchable for us, and I doubt others would fare much better in understanding what was happening.
I guess I'm saying good luck watching this when you probably won't really understand what's happening.
However, I must acknowledge that the film's visual aesthetics were remarkably captivating. It was undeniably beautiful to look at, which makes it all the more disheartening that the subtitles were practically unreadable.
In summary, the sole redeeming factor of this movie is its visually pleasing nature. Unless you simply want to admire its aesthetics, I would advise against wasting your time on it.
Perhaps I am being too harsh with my review of Tunnel to Summer movie? But this is something I would have 100% loved to know before watching this or any anime or movie for that matter. I always look at the reviews before watching something and had there been any comments that said "Hey the subtitles aren't so good, you probably won't understand the ENTIRE movie, watch at your own risk" or perhaps something along the lines of “this movie has fansubs and might not make sense” that would have been really, really nice to know beforehand.
