This anime was filled with nothing but disappointment.
When I first started watching it, I expected something.. better. The anime takes place mostly in Amane's (protagonist) apartment, with Mahiru (other protagonist) coming over to cook for him after seeing how he lived by himself.
At first, I liked it, it was nice seeing how they slowly opened up to each other, but it honestly got boring and fell flat.
First off, their interactions with each other felt awkward, it was like they were forced to interact with each other, or were told to interact with romance tied into it. It felt like the author just wrote whatever to hit a word count. I found myself questioning the conversations they had; it just felt weird. Their actions with each other also felt unnatural, like Amane patting Mahiru's head for an excessive amount of time and her hitting him with a pillow?? (This might not be weird to you but it felt like it to me.) Although I admit some moments between them were cute, the overall chemistry was just meh. The conversations were sometimes unbelievably boring. I pushed through and even though their relationship did progress, it was just not interesting. There's sometimes awkward pauses between their conversations and actions, the way they talk just seems so dull also. Honestly, I came into this probably expecting too much, however, it falls beneath my minimum expectations.
Amane was someone who was stale, deadpan, and just.... boring. It felt like talking to a wall. Mahiru had this "angel" persona, but I wasn't really seeing the angel vibe. Yeah, she can cook and clean, but what else is there? The side characters were whatever, they aren't really anything special. They're mainly just characters to liven up this dull anime, in which they did. I even found them more interesting than the main characters. The apartment was dull, the backstories of the main characters were just meh, everything was meh. The backstory of Mahiru just felt like it was inserted to add more depth to her character, but it's just unnatural. It just seemed like it was there so us as an audience would feel bad for her, or for Amane to comfort her.
Nothing groundbreaking happens; no drama, no tension, no interesting events that romance animes usually have. It honestly just takes place in Amane's apartment, and all they do is talk. Even Amane's apartment had no flavor to it.
The only part I enjoyed was the ending, but even that fell short. Something about this anime felt like someone wrote it in a night and it was meant to air the next day.
This anime is dull. Everything is dull. It's just mediocre. I tried to like it, in which I did at first, since the concept was intriguing, but the execution was horrible. If you wanna watch it, be my guest, but don't expect anything great out of it :I
