Jujutsu Kaisen is a fantastic show that manages to mix good animation/characters/story perfectly. However, upon rewatching, I’m realising that it was not the perfect show I thought it was. For someone like me who doesn’t look into small details often, I think I got caught up in the unique characters and beautiful animation. Let me break it down.

The story is a bit slow sometimes:
I know that I went on about how good the story is. However, especially at the start of the show with the first few arcs, it really drags on. I don’t know what they could do to make this better but you do feel it when watching. BUT! The power system and world Gege has created are super interesting. The idea of demons created from fear isn’t new but it is interesting. And how he uses that concept to push the characters and story is even more interesting like how Yuji and Mahito are bitter rivals.
Gege did an excellent job at making all the characters interesting:
I suppose that leads me to the characters which is arguably the best part of the show. I and most people love every character. They’re all so unique and have varying personalities. Yuji as a main character works well, the dynamic of Yuji and Sukuna is mysterious and exciting to see unfold. You have Yuji who doesn’t want to see anyone die (or at least give them a proper death) then give him a connection to the most evil and powerful curse in which his only goal is to kill. Megumi is equally as interesting. I didn’t pick up on this on my first watch, but they hint towards his growth as a sorcerer so much in the show. It makes ‘that’ moment and beyond even more impactful.
Gojo is always a joy to watch. There’s a reason he’s most people’s favourite character. Same with Sukuna. You never quite know what these two are thinking and the fact that there so powerful makes that scary. The lack of fanservice is such a breath of fresh air too. All the characters act like normal people, even Todo makes sense to a degree.
I could go on and on about every character. Props to Gege for his characters.
A bonus note:
There is so much foreshadowing in this show. So many names drop with characters like Tengen and Yuta. I love to see Yuta getting name-dropped multiple times. Tengen gets name-dropped and they give you enough information to be intrigued as to who he is, same with Hakari and even the water curse (the weird red jellyfish you see a lot). It’s exciting to see.
They also outright mention the plan on Shibuya which at first can be classed as a throwaway line but turns into…well you’ll see. Not just Shibuya though, but also the Night Parade of Hundred Demons.
The power system is one of the most unique I've seen:
It makes you want to learn more and fully grasp what your seeing. They give you enough information to understand and explain well enough to understand what’s happening. However, It makes you want to research and understand properly. I think everyone whos interested should do so as well. Going into this show again, I knew everyone's powers and how they work, which makes the fights that much more enjoyable to watch. You can start to theorise too, like what is Yujis and Sukanas technique? What other shinigami will we see from Megumi?
To summarise. It’s an amazing show and everyone needs to watch it. However, if anyone says they found it boring, I can understand. The techniques are hard to grasp sometimes and the first few arcs can be slow. But the payoff you get is like nothing I’ve seen before. The characters alone make it worth watching.
A word of advice read the manga after season 2. Rewatching this made me realise that I love the manga so much more than the show.
Actual Actual conclusion. I loved seeing all the foreshadowing and being able to actually understand what was being said. However, the fights just didn’t hit as hard as I remember and I was slightly bored at the start. The Mahito arc is where it really gets into gear.
Bonus: I preferred the second intro to the first this time around. Maybe that’s cuz I’ve heard and seen the first so much, I just think it looks smoother and more interesting. FYI, I reckon we’ll get animation like that in season 2.
I’m just waffling now so I'll leave it here, thanks for reading.
