Tries too hard to be smart. There's basically no moment wherein a character does things normally.
Literally every major character is almost constantly engaged in some sort of elaborate planning.
Addition of casual moments would've been nice to see where there is an organic interaction of some sort
to bolster the chemistry b/w the cast and a sort of vulnerable look into them.
And seriously, these are high school students? Ryuen straight up seems like some mafia boss.
Every one of them has a VERY fixed mould, for which I can perhaps forgive the creators because of the
manipulation aspect. Would be an implausible task for Ayanokoji to control them if they had a multimodal response
system like a normal human. That kind of uncertainty just wouldn't have worked in this setting.
The quotes, while good many a times, make it feel a bit cringey due to the above mentioned
Rules seem reverse engineered to lead to the intended outcome, which'd explain their hyperspecific nature.
And yet, the outcome often relies on some cheap exploit which almost completely invalidates the rules,
i.e, the rules merely function as a tight seal so they don't really allow for any well reasoned solution
to be executed normally.
Some good messages / logic embedded in between but doesn't necessarily contribute to the overall line of sight.
Kushida's comically explicit dual personality is insufferable and not in the intended fashion I am sure.
I liked Season 1 better as it had the element of mystery veiled from us in the form of Ayanakoji and his actions.
The "points can buy anything" on campus is basically a free pass to escape plot constraints and almost guarantee
some form of solution out of it. Purchasing the SIM "key" was one that felt like cheating through and through.
For all we know, the school could've had a rule amended to patch this loophole OR I assume that the price was arbitrary
for this and they could've made it exorbitantly expensive.
If not, and that there is a pre-determined price sheet for every such object possessed by an official of the school, it should
be made available to the request of every student to make the playing field impartial.
In any case, I can hear some of you screaming "but it is just a creative work!" and yes, it is. But it chooses to step into
a supposedly meticulously put together plot so it should atleast be consistent with that to a degree. They had all the liberty
to not sell it as such. They set the expectations so one ought to see the elements with respect to that.
Fire opening tho, both S1 and S2, I will give them that.
