This was my Second Time watching Bakemonogatari, and I appreciated it way more this time around. The way this Anime focuses on its characters is just Brilliant, giving them a charming personality and writing them complex and
deep.
The Plot Revolves around Koyomi Araragi, a pseudo-vampire helping girls suffering from supernatural apparitions. The plot is episodic in nature with each character getting their respective arcs, and ultimately it helping them overcoming their struggle as well as occasionally setting up the stage for future arcs. Every arc is surrounded by a well-done mystery regarding a Japanese myth which is primarily gets connected with the struggles of the characters. The Arcs themselves were quite engaging and interesting. The best ones being Suruga Monkey and Tsubasa Tiger, while the weakest being Nadeko Snake.
Speaking of Characters, they are the best part about Monogatari. Each one of them is just so charming and fun to watch, you just crave to want more. The struggles are very personal and a part of their character flaw. Also the Dialogues, they are so witty and very engaging. Some might consider it pointless banter, but they are pretty significant to their characters and make their personalities so engaging.
The Animation and Cinematography are just so artistic and experimental, yet very pleasant looking. I always love it when media tries to experiment and Shaft did an impressive job in animating Monogatari. The direction was so unique I hardly see any anime try doing this. The scene transitions are incredible, and the way they include the monologues and all other texts is great. Sometimes they also use actual images and clips instead of animation, which is quite ballsy and hasn't been done in other forms of media so they have my respect for that.
What else could I say about it, well the Soundtrack is also amazing, with every Opening and pretty good, and doesn't follow the anime trope (though that could be said about the whole anime as well).
All in All, I think this time around I'm gonna enjoy Monogatari a lot more compared to the first time, my ratings already elevated from 8 to 9.5/10 for Bakemonogatari. It's a very experimental story, and it doesn't care about whether normal anime fans like it or not, and that makes it fairly ambitious in its ideas as it doesn't hold back for the sake of viewers. It presents its ideas and does it boldly. Reminiscing over the last arcs, I can't wait to re-experience to see how my opinions are going to be different compared to my first watch. One thing I do know is I'm gonna appreciate the series a lot more this time.
