Perhaps I've spent 17 years waiting to be needed by you.
Just like cherry blossoms wait for spring!
What would you do if one day you met someone your age whose days are numbered?
This is the story of Haruki, a young man who works in a library and who will be led to meet Sakura, a girl with a pancreatic disease.
Sakura and the young boy will become friends and Haruki will decide to help Sakura realize her last wishes. From there starts a very beautiful series of events, experiences, which will come to constitute Sakura's last memories.
This film made me cry crocodile tears. If you are a fan of romantic films that are doomed to a sad ending, this film is one of the best in this category. The atmosphere throughout the film and the progression of the relationship between Sakura and Haruki are just great. I didn't see this film 3 times for nothing, at no time did I say to myself "well I'm falling asleep a little there". No, we want to discover how Sakura will live these last moments, knowing that she is still going to class. By the way, a character I love is her best friend, who is very protective and who knew how to keep her calm when she learned of Sakura's illness. I think I identified with her a lot because she made me feel so sorry for her.
Towards the end, the tension rises, Sakura's hospitalization scared me. I was ready for it to be over for her after the fireworks scene. And yet, while we expected her to succumb to her illness, Sakura died in a much more atrocious way. I can tell you that as a spectator, I have never cried so much. From the scene on the television where Haruki discovers Sakura's murder until the end, my throat was tight and my eyes were red as hell.
Concerning the end, I don't know if we should draw a moral from it or not. I just tell myself that there are deaths that are more painful to digest than others. Sakura, despite her illness, had the opportunity to say goodbye for real to her loved ones. But the person who took her life prevented her from doing so. And I don't know, the film has the power to put us in the place of a loved one, as if we had really lost them. Because Sakura is present in 90% of the scenes and we learn her personality, we get attached to her, we know her entourage, her tastes...
I think the end surprised us all, and that a gentler death would surely have relieved us more, but the author wanted to backstab us like the murderer did.
Apart from the story which is a big 10/10 for me, I don't remember the OSTs even though they must have been good. The visuals were very beautiful too. I plan to watch the movie again in the future.
