Almost all the people who joined to the animanga world have heard the name of "Nana", and this isn't just a coincidence because Ai Yazawa did a flawless work which don't get old throughout the time. With plenty of characters well developed, and a simple but unique plot we enter to magic, and sensible world of Nana.
Even if all of us don't start with the anime, the manga follows the same story, and actually delivers the story with more details than the anime, but after all both of them are masterpieces. Regarding the story, two characters are presented to us in the first 10 minutes of the 1st chapter, two girls who are incompatible at first sight, who share the same name Nana Komatsu and Nana Osaki.
A person who just started watching anime can think that this is a weak beginning for one of the most acclaimed pieces of anime of all time, but couldn't be more wrong about it. This coincidence seems clumsy, and maybe a bit too simple to make an anime of 47 episodes about it, but it's the opposite. The name is trying to show us how a person related by the name, and the city can create a friendship like both of the main characters, but at the same time can cause that amount of troubles.
It is necessary to say that this isn't actually an anime focused on music, and even when I know a lot or maybe all the people know about it, I want to remark it. The romance starts when we know the 1st male side character, called Ren Houjou, dealing to a spiral of past feelings mixed with the new ones with the objective of breaking the idyllic friendship of the both Nana.
The idea of creating a band is the key of what would mean to Nana Komatsu her best friend, and how is she able to support her throughout the bad & good times. Meanwhile, the multiples romances of Komatsu, is the challenge which Nana Osaki needs to fight against if she wants Nana Komatsu inside her life.
The two ideas don't work well together, and that leads to infinite problems which are guilty of making all the heartbreaking situations we see in the anime, and the manga. Most of the time we feel the situation of the characters throughout their mobiles, because is like the only tool they have to don't lose the contact even when they are closer than ever, but the siuation don't helps.
In addition to that, side characters suffer from the same desting as the main ones, mainly because they are rivals, and they need to hide their true intentions to make paparazzis, and other medias silent. This maybe makes the anime a bit slow some times, but the peak moments fix that even better than I ever thought.
I know I said music is secondary more than half of the time in Nana, but it is true that when the moment of showing the virtues of Anna Tsuchiya (BLACK STONES) and Olivia Lufkin (TRAPNEST) out, leaving this anime with a level of music so high even to the present works.
What can I say more about my anime number 1, actually it is so important for me, and even when it seems strange I would like to thank this piece of art for helping me throughout hard times, and returning me back the charm I lost before I started watching Nana. So... Thank for reading this review completely, and if you read even just a word of this, thank you so much!
