I never imagined that Summer Time Rendering was going to be this good. When it first released, I thought the anime was going towards something like thriller, especially seeing the comments of it's trailer. I would never imagine that it was actually time traveling. Finished watching it at 18/11/2024 at 11:40am.
If you have seen some of my other anime reviews, you would notice that most animes that are time travel related, are highly rated by me. I really love time travel related things, that's why when i used to have low expectations for this despite alot of people saying it's underrated, it unexpectedly was related to time traveling, which got my hopes up, and it did pass my expectations.
The show reminds me alot of works of Makato Shinkai, since the story of Summer Time Rendering takes place at an island, which most works of Makato Shinkai also takes place at islands. And some parts are very similar to his work, and some of the art styles, like the background is very similar to some of his works like Suzume.
Though even the art style kinda reminds me of Makto Shinkai's works, the powerhouse or story reminds me of Re:Zero. If you have watched Re:zero, then you would've noticed that Shinpei's time traveling ability works very similar as Subaru, which only activates when they are killed or they dies. Though for Subaru, whenever he dies he returns to a specific spawn point and that spawn point cannot change until he succeeds on finishing an arc without dying. But, for Shinpei, whenever he dies he also returns to a spawn point, but every time he dies once, that spawn point will begin to shrink as if, its moving little by little until Shinpei can't loop anymore. So, basically Unlike Return By death of Subaru which has no limits, Shinpei's time travel ability has limits on how many times he can loop until he reaches his real ending and death. Another difference of Subaru and Shinpei is, Subaru couldn't tell anyone that he has return by death or else that person he talked to would die due to the curse of Satella, which means he needs to do everything on his own. For Shinpei, he was able to tell anyone about his looping ability without having any side effects or having something bad happen to them, though that doesn't mean that Shinpei had it way easier than Subaru. Yes, Subaru had it worse than Shinpei both Mentally and Physically but, Even though Shinpei could tell anyone about the looping, the other downside of his ability is that Haine was able to loop together with Shinpei and was able to counter almost everything he did. So both Subaru and Shinpei has the same ability but also their own downsides that makes their path hard.
One of my other favorite parts from this anime is the MC. If you really think about it, Shinpei is a very well written MC. He was able to remain calm at most times, due to learning from his past traumas and regrets he had back in the past, which was why he was able to remain composed at most parts. Unlike other Anime MC's, Shinpei is very well smart too, since he would observe everything to use those knowledge at his next loop. Even knowing he failed at that Timeline, he wouldn't try to died and loop right away, but he would use his failure to try to learn atleast something about his enemy and what he did wrong, so he could fix that mistake and also create a counter for it at his next loop. He truly uses his time and life without waisting any second of it, which makes him truly goated.
I really loved the show, thought im sadly to say that i would only give it a 9.5/10 since, as a Time travel fan i really like it if the plot twists were very unexpected nor very noticeable for the viewers. After watching the first half of the show, I would know what will happen in the next episodes. If you connect the dots, you would notice the plot twists that are coming and how the story will take place especially the ending. Yes, the story is well written and the plot twists are well created, though personally i would like to watch something that i couldn't predict what will happen in the next few episodes. Though overall it was a very good watch, despite having a very low fanbase. I would totally recommend this to someone who loves time travels and thriller stuffs. 9.5/10 overall
