When I first picked up The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity, I didn’t expect it to leave such a lasting impression on me. Yet here I am making another review, this time, of my second favorite manga. This is a story that’s more than just a romance, it’s a celebration of kindness, personal growth, and the connections that make life worthwhile. Trust me, I watched almost all the romances anime has to offer and this one is the best by a long shot.
What is it? A Happy and Realistic Romance
At its core, the story revolves around Rintaro and Kaoruko, whose romance is as pure as it is transformative. Their love doesn’t just affect them, it ripples outward, bringing light and warmth to everyone around them. And while the story maintains a generally happy tone, it feels grounded. It beautifully conveys the idea that kindness attracts kindness, creating a cycle of positivity.
Good Art
One of the most remarkable aspects of this manga is its art. It’s a weekly release, yet the illustrations never falter.
Characters that Shine
But what truly makes it beautiful are the characters. They’re all kind hearted and have awesome personalities, but unlike other stories (Like The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten or Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie) they’re not kind just for the sake of it, if that makes sense. Either they were more distant initially or they had a really big impact on the main couple because of their exemplary attitude (Parents or Rintaro’s teacher). Watching even the tougher characters soften and grow throughout the story is incredibly rewarding.
Interesting Themes
This manga isn’t afraid to explore deeper themes. It’s not just about romance, it’s about living life. Addresses discrimination between schools and how that matters little, the fact that you should pursue a job you love, and more. I particularly loved how Rintaro’s mother supports him, not by pressuring him to meet certain expectations but by celebrating his efforts and ensuring he always feels valued.
Who Would Enjoy This?
If you’re someone who loves wholesome romance stories, this manga is a must read. Like I said before, it’s not just about love between two people, it’s about family, friendships, and finding joy in the little things. And if you appreciate life lessons sprinkled throughout your stories, you’ll find plenty to savor here.
Moments That Stuck With Me

And many more!
Perfectly Paced and Full of Heart
The pacing of the story feels just right, neither rushed nor dragging. Every chapter adds something meaningful, whether it’s character development, a life lesson, or just a moment of pure joy. Honestly, I can’t think of anything I’d change.
Oh, and one more thing: Kaoruko has the most radiant smile. It’s the kind of smile that stays with you, even after the story ends and makes you instantly happy!
Also, be ready to feel a void like none other you've felt before. (Especially if you read chapter 100 on Christmas eve, like me.)

Blessed are the Peacemakers.
Thanks for reading and thank you Saka Mikami.
