My first review on this site... Don't expect this to be some literary masterpiece lol
The first time I watched Attack On Titan is when I was in 6th grade. I heard a girl that I liked at the time talking about it so that was enough motivation for me to check it out. I thought it was really cool, so I watched a few episodes and the somehow I just forgot about it or something and dropped the show.
Fast forward about 2 years and I'm in 8th grade and by this point I was a fully fledged anime enthusiast. After I got a new tv for Christmas one year I decided to watch this show everybody was talking about at the time. This was before the final season was announced, so I decided to sit down and watch it and man was I addicted. I was zooming past episodes. I was staying up way past my bedtime, watching it at school, watching when I got home. Any chance I got I was watching Attack On Titan, for better or for worse. I remember one day I was watching season one in class and it was that episode where the attack titan and the female titan were fighting in the town, and the girl sitting behind me kept peering over at my computer screen and to this day, I wonder if she thought I was watching porn or something because that scene does look a little weird out of context lmao.
But anyways, to sum it up, I was absolutely hooked on this show. I even rewatched it right before the final season came out. This makes today my third rewatch of Attack On Titan. And honestly, I have to say my thoughts are mostly the same as before. I absolutely love the first few episodes. I love seeing young Eren interact with young Mikasa and young Armin. I also still believe that the appearance of the colossal titan is one of the best first episode moments in anime history. The silence that happens right before adds to the absolute terror and shock of the titan invasion of Shigansina. The show immediately drops us into this very tense and dangerous world.
My favorite arc in season one is definitely the Trost District arc. It was absolutely crazy my first time watching the show to see the colossal titan come up right behind Eren and then the huge twist later on with Eren becoming a titan. Going back, I think it was probably obvious that the main character wasn't going to die less than halfway through the show, but I don't mind it that much because we got to see Mikasa's reaction to it and I love how they wrote this. Mikasa isn't immediately angry, she doesn't break down into tears, she goes back to fighting titans like usual, but she starts acting a little too reckless and uses up all of the gas in her gear. That subtle moment was really cool.
Now there is one kinda but not really big issue with the Female Titan Arc. My main problem with this arc is that it is unnecessarily long and there is a lot of pointless monologue. I honestly still like it, despite its flaws, even if it feels like a slightly weird place to end the season.
