#####(No spoilers, just a general synopsis!)
So, I personally got saturated with isekai very fast when it started to really boom in the last decade. It's not even that I dislike the premise, it just got tired out quickly for me, even though I am very repetitive when picking manga (I mean, I'm a slice-of-life fan, for crying out loud). And the dating-sim-isekai types were the ones I found most boring, probably because I know a little... too much... about dating sim games.
But this dating-sim-isekai romance knocked it out of the park for me!
The story and the characters are what made it special. It's so...bonkers. Extremely silly, so extra, so dramatic. Our protagonist Mariko is head over heels in love with the Bad Boy Deliquent MC on the dating sim she is transported to (and is an absolute expert in), and when she realizes she gets to actually interact with him in a material form, she decides to just go all out and tell him everything she feels for him. Which is, of course, insane levels of half otaku half stalker nonsense. She's earnest and sweet and INTENSE. But of course that her confession doesn't end there, she gets his attention and curiosity, and they end caught up in a way that could even affect the game's arc developments and possibilities. Her love for him pretty much glitches the software!
But her insanity and intensity don't stop on her first confession; it is relentless. She is never embarrassed or disheartened, because being able to interact with him is like meeting a god on its own. The way she loves him is unconditional, thorough and obsessive, not in an yandere way, but just plainly and simply sweet. She's a mob chara who gets to talk to the man of her 2D dreams! Of course, him being a deliquent type, he wants to convince her that he's a bad person, a bad man, blahblahblah, but she already knows him through-and-through, inside out, and she loves him, all of it all.
It was the aspect of her being so completely devoted to him that got me in love with this manga from the first chapter. I love love, and I love hard loves. I love when a flawed, twisted character finds someone who accepts them and loves them. I love earnesty and sincerity, and I love that yearning, that ache of loving someone who one believes to be totally out of reach, out their league, out of this world. But the story also develops into new characters, new ideas inside of the dating-sim-isekai trope, which adds a freshness to it that I miss in the genre. GRANTED, I know, the art is not the best you've ever seen, but it gets the job done to drive the storyline to where it needs to go.
I've read and reread this manga a bunch of times, it's definitely one of my top 5 favorites, and it always gets my heart racing, so I decided to give it some ani-love and write a review. If you like obsessive loves, yearning, romantic comedies, grumpy x sunshine vibes, give this one a try! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and hmu if you do ˚ ༘♡ ⋆。˚
