The manga My Senpai Is Annoying = a bunch of adults in an office setting + school romcom rules + episodic structure + no depth, only fluff.
This formula has several consequences. Unlike in romantic comedies about students in a school, there are no external deadlines, like year change or graduation. Because of that, the manga has been stretched seemingly until the author got bored. As a consequence, the final chapters are very unsatisfying. Don't read this manga if you're looking for a grand romantic story. There is also not enough exploration of main characters' feelings after the characters realize them, which one expects from romance manga and anime.
Events, which are usually big in school romantic comedies, – Valentine's Day, Christmas, beach episode, summer festival visit – all of them are cute and heartwarming to read through in the moment, but they lack impact on the overall story, because there's almost no character development happening.
Even though the story often follows school romcom tropes, the characters aren't made to behave like school children. In awkward situations, they speak their mind a lot more decisively. There's a lot less awkwardness for the sake of awkwardness compared to what one can find in the usual "dense MC, awkward school children" romcom manga. The characters are adults, who mostly behave like adults. The office work aspect is explored a bit, but isn't the focus of the story.
Because of the manga's gimmick (a big guy and a smol girl, ha-ha, very funny) and because of how the male main character is shown (
The full color art is great. The emotions of characters are easy to read, there's quite a bit of properly shown movement, which is unusual for a slice-of-life-ish manga. The format of very short chapters (most are just four pages long) makes it very easy to pause in the middle of reading and pick it up again later.
My rating is 7 out of 10 (Good) because I like the fluff. If you don't like the fluff, you can count my rating as 6/10 (Fine). This manga is above average, but don't expect too much unless you're a fan of the romcom genre. Don't read My Senpai Is Annoying as your first romance/romcom manga. If you're looking for a first romantic comedy manga to read – try The Dangers in My Heart, Horimiya, or Kaguya-sama: Love is War instead.
