Jonathan Joestar, el Joestar que comenzó la enorme maldición que perseguirá a su familia por siglos.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Phantom Blood da inicio con el origen de la ya mencionada maldición de los Joestar, contándonos como fallece la madre de Jonathan nuestro protagonista, durante un accidente de carromato una noche de tormenta, su padre George, sobrevive siendo salvado por Dario "Brando" aquel que conducía el carromato además que tenia planteado robar todo lo posible de la amable pareja, pero consigue la promesa de un favor de los Joestar. Años después, Dio el hijo de Dario Brando, cansado de que su padre abuse de él, decide matarlo, además de decidir tomar las riquezas de la mansión Joestar.



Con esta premisa Jonathan nuestro héroe tendrá que convivir con el mismísimo diablo, aquel que decidió atormentarlo por la avaricia y el ansia de poder, acabando con su perro, acosando a Erina su amada y años después matando lentamente a George. Aunque ya Jonathan pensando que se ha labrado una hermandad con Dio, descubre todo el plan de Dio, con ello decide buscar un antídoto, encontrándose con Speedwagoon un matón de poca monta de Londres que después de un combate se alía con Jonathan. Después de encontrar la medicina Jonathan vuelve, encontrándose el peor de los casos... la mascara que estaba estudiando, es una horrible maldición, que otorga los poderes de un vampiro aquel al que la usa, Dio ahora siendo un vampiro y quemando la mansión Joestar huye para una futura venganza después de que la luz del sol casi acabe con él, Erina salva a Jonathan y conoce a su maestro Will A. Zeppeli aquel que le enseñara el arte del Hamon, el arte de la energía en la respiración que puede acabar con los No-Muertos.



Esta obra que nos presenta un inicio tan lleno de drama, tensión y "Romance" de algún modo, nos acompañara durante años, siendo una serie de múltiples temporadas, pasando por hijos, nietos, bisnietos e incluso pasando por paradojas temporales que nos mostrara en el futuro un universo diferente donde Jonathan no nació en Londres, sino en Estados Unidos y era un Jockey, pero esa es otra historia.



El arte de Araki es uno de los mas valorados actualmente por un estilo tan detallado y definido pero en sus inicios era un estilo artístico de la época, mostrando cuerpos musculosos exagerados, líneas pesadas y sombras muy marcas, inspirado en obras del momento como "el Puño de la Estrella del Norte" pero un estilo que definiría los inicios de Araki en el futuro.



La obra es muy interesante como da a inicio a unas bases como es el poder del Hamon, una técnica de respiración para acabar con los No-Muertos que muestra una técnica pura y candente, que permite al usuario saltar o caminar por el agua, quemar a los no muertos afectando a su cuerpo interior y incluso golpear a través de otras entidades sin dañar la primera, mostrándonos historias de personajes interesantes como los dos guerreros Tarkus y Bufford la dualidad de villanos sublime, ademas de 3 guerreros que son Tronpetty, Dire y Straits nos muestra un poder interesante como el Hamon, en el futuro olvidado por el uso de los Stands.

El inicio del siguiente arco mas interesante, por su protagonista mas suelto y risueño muestra también el inicio de la "Maldición Joestar", todo aquel barcos, avión o coche en el que un Joestar se monta tendrá un accidente, esta historia continuaría con Joseph Joestar, el nieto de Jonathan. Su hijo George II, sufrió un accidente aéreo al poco tiempo de tener a su hijo y se le dio por muerto aunque realmente esta viviendo en "Las Islas Canarias" pero esa es otra historia.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Phantom Blood begins with the origin of the aforementioned Joestar curse, telling us how Jonathan's mother, our protagonist’s mother, dies during a carriage accident on a stormy night. His father, George, survives after being saved by Dario "Brando" the man driving the carriage who also intended to steal everything he could from the kind couple, but instead earns a promise of a favor from the Joestars. Years later, Dio, the son of Dario Brando, tired of his father’s abuse, decides to kill him and take the riches of the Joestar mansion for himself.



With this premise, Jonathan, our hero, is forced to live with the devil himself — the one who chooses to torment him out of greed and lust for power. Dio kills his dog, harasses Erina, Jonathan’s beloved, and years later, slowly poisons George. Even though Jonathan thinks he has formed a brotherhood with Dio, he eventually discovers Dio’s entire plan. Determined, Jonathan seeks an antidote, encountering Speedwagon, a petty thug from London who, after a fight, allies himself with Jonathan. After finding the medicine, Jonathan returns, only to face the worst possible situation… the mask he had been studying is a horrible curse that grants vampiric powers to the one who uses it. Dio, now a vampire, burns down the Joestar mansion and escapes to plan his future revenge, after nearly being killed by sunlight. Erina saves Jonathan, and he meets his master Will A. Zeppeli, who will teach him the art of Hamon — the art of energy through breathing that can destroy the undead.



This story, which presents such a dramatic, tense, and somehow “romantic” beginning, will stay with us for years. It's a multi-season series, passing through sons, grandsons, great-grandsons, and even time paradoxes that, in the future, will show us an alternate universe where Jonathan wasn’t born in London, but in the United States, and was a jockey — but that’s another story.



Araki’s art is now one of the most praised for its detailed and defined style, but in its beginnings, it followed the artistic trends of the time — showcasing exaggerated muscular bodies, heavy lines, and deep shadows. It was inspired by contemporary works like “Fist of the North Star” but it was a style that would go on to define Araki’s early era.



The series is very interesting in how it introduces core concepts, such as the power of Hamon, a breathing technique used to defeat the undead. It is a pure and fiery technique that allows the user to jump or walk on water, burn the undead by affecting their internal organs, and even strike through other entities without harming the first. It introduces us to interesting characters like the two warriors Tarkus and Bruford, The sublime duality of villains, along with three warriors—Tronpetty, Dire, and Straits—presents us with an interesting power known as Hamon. It gives us a fascinating power— which, in the future, would be forgotten in favor of the use of Stands.

The beginning of the next arc is more interesting because of its more relaxed and cheerful protagonist. It also continues the beginning of the "Joestar Curse": any ship, plane, or car a Joestar rides will suffer an accident. This story would continue with Joseph Joestar, Jonathan’s grandson. His son, George II, suffered a plane crash shortly after having his son and was presumed dead — although in truth, he is living in the Canary Islands — but that’s another story.
