Rent A Girlfriend is a manga about a weak male that doesn't have any progression throughout the story and dreams of himself being cucked. The main reason to read it is its art which is yes, good. The story lacks quality as the female lead [chizuru] leads on kazuya for 300 million years, and kazuya just lets it happen. He is the worst MC in a romance manga. He is the generic loser MC but WORSE. Somehow, not only is he a generic loser MC, he has no self respect and keeps pursuing a girl who literally rents herself out, by RENTING her.
The story lacks any quality as instead of having kazuya develop over the course of the series, instead we are given 300 million fanservice chapters, and kazuya just drooling all over chizuru as she leads him on for eternity. It is like sisyphus, but instead of pushing a rock sisyphus is just a pathetic cuck that looms over the girl and helps her with everything AND STILL GETS REJECTED. 0 SELF RESPECT.
All of the girls are made out to be NPC's besides chizuru, as kazuya only has eyes for chizuru. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing if this ass manga didn't last 300+ chapters and STILL 0 ROMANCE DEVELOPMENT. Bro, Spoiler for sono bisque doll & uzaki chan ->
Do you understand what I mean? This manga is something you read only if you like dumpsters as the work is a hot mess. Also the story isn't realistic at all due to this guy having a harem despite being absolutely incompetent and also not charismatic at all. In real life you can be a stupid incompetent but having some charisma goes a long way. This guy doesn't even have that. It's just a self insert to the highest degree.
Altho calling kazuya a self insert for the audience might be a bit much, considering it's hard to find someone as incompetent as him. Seriously, how are you this pathetic? Anyone in any other romcom would give this guy a run for his money. Like you know that ML from "our dating experience" where the FL is very experienced? That guy is WAY better than kazuya. Not to mention that ruka loves him, yet he just ignores her and goes for the same girl who he rents 3 million times and just uses him for money. Like yes, that part is realistic about how some people are stupid and hard-headed. But at kazuya's mental capacity he doesn't deserve to do that because of his double digit IQ.
If you want a romance that has good art and also story, there are a lot of others out there. I can recommend you some if you like, anything is really way better than this slop.
Perhaps renting a girlfriend is common in japan, and I definitely believe this concept can be done well as a story, but this isn't it. The ML has no self respect, no growth, and is just cannon fodder who doesn't develop emotionally or physically over the series.
