The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity ReviewThe Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity has always been well-known for its manga, and this year CloverWorks finally took on the project and adapted it into an anime. The choice of studio could not have been better, as CloverWorks is known for its experience in handling emotionally resonant stories with beautiful and captivating visuals.
I wasn’t familiar with the series beforehand, but as soon as I heard about the anime adaptation, I became curious and wanted to see what it was all about. And I can say with confidence that it is absolutely worth watching, 100% worth it.
This anime manages to perfectly capture the essence of romance without falling into unnecessary clichés, and I consider it one of the rare romance anime that is practically flawless.

StoryThe story is very well developed, and from the very first episode, the series consistently shows both perspectives, those of Kaoruko and Rintarou. The growth between the “couple” in the early episodes is remarkable, and honestly, although some people argue that there are too many apologies, anyone who has been at the start of a relationship knows that it is perfectly normal to want to apologize often, simply because you are unsure of how the other person feels about certain things.
The story introduces both the friends and the parents in a natural way, making all of the characters feel interesting and meaningful to the protagonists’ lives. It also highlights the true importance of friendship in Rintarou’s personal growth. Over the course of 13 episodes, we witness many outings between the protagonists and see their love gradually and realistically develop. Although many characters fear Rintarou because he seems strange, the series shows that there will always be someone who loves us as we are. One of the most touching moments comes when Rintarou’s mother says, “You finally found someone who sees you for who you are.”
The story is written beautifully, and the final two episodes are crucial for the development and conclusion of the main arc, leaving the viewer with a deep sense of satisfaction and closure.
CharactersFinally, in one anime, I consider all the characters to be well-developed, each interesting in their own way and with their own sense of humor. They all have insecurities, just like any person, and each one receives a balanced amount of screen time, allowing the audience to connect with them naturally.
Rintarou & KaorukoStarting with the two protagonists, to be honest, I think they are perfect for this story. They complement each other very well, despite the large height difference. Rintarou has always shown himself to be very protective, caring about others’ opinions, and wanting the best for everyone, even though people are afraid of him. Kaoruko, at first glance, seemed very shy, but also endearing in her own way. Despite their insecurities, I believe they perfectly balance and complete each other. Strangely, they look even better when their hair is slightly messy.
Usami, Yorita & NatsusawaAs for the supporting characters, these three play a very important role in the series. From the very beginning, they demonstrated the true meaning of friendship, always defending Rintarou in every situation and supporting him in everything. But that is not all: each of them is admirable in their own way and interesting, with distinct personalities. It is clear that they put themselves on the line to protect Rintarou, showing loyalty and courage.
SubaruRegarding Subaru, she has a sad backstory, and all of her actions are completely understandable. She is a sensitive and very protective character, but fortunately, by the end of the season, she found herself and was able to find people who accept and like her for who she is. For me, Subaru is one of the characters whose struggles are closest to real life, which makes her one of my favorites.
Kyouko & KeichiroI couldn’t make this review without talking about the parents. Despite their limited screen time, both are extremely important to the story. For the first time in an anime, we see how parents truly are: supportive of their children in every way. The love Rintarou’s mother shows, even going as far as changing her hairstyle and getting piercings, speaks volumes. The parents are undoubtedly one of the reasons this anime is so remarkable.

Music & OST´sRegarding the music, I’ll be honest. First of all, everyone knows that when Tatsuya Kitani composes a piece, it’s impossible for it to be bad. Personally, I enjoy watching anime openings at least once, but this opening is completely unskippable, making it one of my all-time favorites. As for the OSTs, they are excellent and used at the perfect moments, making the romantic scenes feel twice as impactful as they normally would.

AnimationRegarding the animation, to be honest, I think CloverWorks is probably one of the best when it comes to the romance genre. Of course, I am not comparing it to studios that produce films, but in terms of anime and consistency throughout the series, it really stands out. Every space, setting, and character movement is carefully crafted, making the anime’s world feel realistic and immersive. The character designs are also incredibly faithful to the manga, which I consider essential for a proper adaptation. Small details, such as facial expressions, gestures, and the way lighting highlights certain scenes, make the experience even more engaging. The attention to detail not only enhances the anime’s aesthetics but also amplifies the emotional impact of key moments in the story. For anyone who values visual quality and consistency, this adaptation is truly impressive.

Final ThoughtsRegarding this anime, there really are no words to describe what I felt while watching it. I would have a smile on my face every time I looked at the screen, and it wasn’t just because of the story or the visuals, but also because of the way each scene is crafted, with attention to detail and the emotions conveyed. Although I haven’t watched many romance anime, this is by far the best I have ever seen. It’s rare to find a work that balances story, characters, music, and animation so perfectly, and The Fragrant Flower Blooms With Dignity achieves exactly that.
This anime is simply perfect, and I want to thank CloverWorks for taking on this project and executing it in a way that perhaps no other studio could. I plan to rewatch it once everything is available on Netflix, to enjoy the highest quality and take in every detail. Fortunately, the second season has already been announced, and I hope it comes out as soon as possible. I could continue reading the manga, but at the moment I prefer to watch and feel each scene without knowing what will happen, so the emotion remains genuine and complete. I believe that when I watch it again, I will enjoy it even more, although unfortunately this won’t change my current ranking, which is already extremely high. This anime left a profound impact on me and will certainly remain among my favorites for a long time.
