POSSIBLE SPOILERS
See you next summer, somewhere…
Well, this anime was supposed to be finished in Summer time, but actually it deserved to be watched at a slow pace. So let’s break it into parts
PART I : FIRST SIGHT
Let’s see, whoever comes into this type of series should know that CITY is an anime which can enter inside the genre of Slice of Life without any complaint, even when it is not labelled as that. Why? To be honest, this is only a personal opinion, and that’s why this is called a review, but how will you describe a show where the plot isn’t not the main thing of the show, and instead the daily lives of the main cast (infinite in this case) steal all the attention for them? Exactly, a normal and legendary Slice of Life! (The paragraph feels like a rollercoaster without dots, but this show was a rollercoaster too).
Anyways, we are introduced to CITY as we were citizens since forever, with all the colorful scenarios, charming characters and daily situations you cannot feel more than if you were in your own city. Moreover, before finishing this first part, the watching experience changes a lot when you are so into the manga, where the mastery of Keiichi is more than astonishing (at least for me) so if you liked the adaptation, you should check the manga anytime soon.
PART II : CITY’S SOUL & WHY IT IS DIFFERENT?
To be honest, some people can say that if an anime like CITY or Nichijou can’t make you laugh, it doesn’t surpass 6 out of 10, but it wasn’t made to make you laugh but to make you to feel more relaxed after a stressful day at work or just to disconnect from your every day.
For this reason, that is why I took almost 3 months to finish this piece of art (mainly because it was a SEASONAL, and it ended like last week so point for me). Coming back to the main point of this 2nd part, CITY isn’t that funny to be honest, but it has that warm charm which can make you appreciate the anime at its fullest, without thinking too much about what is said or creating theories which lead to nothing. This level of seriousness is what makes this anime a dangerous contestant to be one of the best Slice of Life of the last 5 years, because it mixes Seinen parts with Kodomo parts making it available to all types of people.

PART III : KYOTO ANIMATION WORK WITH THE ART
Kyoto Animation surprised everyone by announcing that they were going to be the ones who would be in charge of CITY’s adaptation, making Keiichi Arawi’s work the first project since 2019 led by this legendary studio. In my opinion, they did their best with this aspect, it looks absolutely precious. Every second, frame, scene is so well made that you even forget if you are seeing a whole movie instead of a 30 minute episode.
Moreover, there is the re-introduction of the eye-catch (short fragments which normally mark the break between the ads) which is a great way of coming back to the past where almost every anime had their own dynamic eye-catchers (ex. Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood). Sadly that tradition is almost forgotten in the past, and even when I would like to watch it more frequently on brand new anime, I actually know how much time animators need to make them, and in a more intense prism, to change them every episode. With this said, there is no complaint about the level of the animation here, it can’t be more flawless. 10 out of 10 here.

PART IV : LAUGHS, SIMPLICITY AND AN ADAPTATION WHICH CAN’T BE BETTER THAN THIS
To sum up, every fan of this work should admit that we can’t complain even a little of what we received because they displayed all they had on every episode of total 12+1 ones, or at least it seemed like that to me (I know to you it seemed the same).
I’m so happy that it got an adaptation just after I decided to start the manga, which is my 2nd favorite right now, because it allowed me to enjoy it at 100% without any spoilers or anything, just my own experience.
Finally, CITY is magic, simply magic. And that’s what we ask for on animes like that, just simplicity and a warm tone.
Thanks to anyone who read the full review
And remember if it is simple is good (almost all the times)
