Chainsaw Man: The Reze Arc was an electrifying experience, and a perfect adaptation of what is (in my opinion) the best arc of Fujimoto's masterpiece.
The first season of the anime was extremely good, but like many others I felt it didn't quite capture what makes the series special. It felt a bit too visually bland (not to say Chainsaw Man's anime it was completely bland or awful-but IN MY OPINION it often times drained out a lot of the life found in Fujimoto's drawings, and no I am not referring to the color palette, mostly just some of the character animation), but all issues with that are completely fixed here. It's like magic, watching Fujimoto's already expressive, lively drawings come to life, whether it be with delicate character animation, or wild action sequences.
The direction here is just top notch stuff. So many good shots, great cinematography, exhilarating fight choreography, beautiful colors, the opening was super lovely, it just matches the manga so perfectly. Among the scenes that blew me away the most, the following scenes: (!! spoilers !!)
Also, would be a crime not to mention the absolutely fantastic soundtrack. Kensuke Ushio's OST captures the comics idiosyncrasies and constantly shifting mood, ranging from gorgeous symphonies (in the pool), goofy incidental music (from below with love), eerie noise (sweet danger), wild rock riffs (edge of chainsaw), or heart breaking piano pieces (our film). This constant shift in tone sounds like it would be distracting or clash with the movies emotions, but yet, like the comic, it melds its wildly different emotions and styles into one beautiful story.
The voice acting has to be pointed out as well, I haven't seen the English dub yet (though I have heard it is fantastic) but the original Japanese cast absolutely nails it, particularly Reze's actress, who perfectly conveys Reze as a sweet, yet deeply troubled teenager desperate to get out of her current situation.
I won't get deep into the story (I plan to do that in a very long review of the Chainsaw Man manga), but it's perfect here. I've already mentioned that I believe this is (thus far) the best arc of Chainsaw Man, which in turn makes it among the best chapters of comics I have ever read. The movie adapts it flawlessly, both matching and succeeding the emotion and power of the arc, it's characters, and it's impact.
