An explosive anime movie. Literally throughout the second part of it, nonstop explosion all over the screen. It was magnificent, I would watch it for a second time if I had the money for it. MAPPA took their sweet time making this movie really breath out the Chainsaw Man in the manga form onto the big screen.
I can't just get enough over the new art style they have been choosing. I don't hate the first season art style, I love it. But this new art style just sold me without a second thought. I really love the irony of it too. You don't expect an anime this nowadays to be having a movie suited style on the anime first season and then having a normal anime style in the form of a movie.
Manga panels after manga panels, they animate it so well I just can't make a complain about it. They just don't animate the manga panels; they also add the little details. Details that make the movie whole. Like the color palette of first volume of Chainsaw Man. When that scene hit, I was flabbergasted. No way they just put it on there and expect me to not notice it. There's also the color palette of the fourth volume on the intro of the movie. It was nice seeing all these details that they're putting it on; it does make you feel like they care for Chainsaw Man as a whole.
When the Bomb Devil get to introduce, I was hit with goosebump. They nailed the introduction, it was eerie, disturbing, and awesome. Explosions after explosions, you can feel the heat crawling into your eyes and the explosion sound creeping behind your ears. They didn't stop when they introduce the Bomb Devil. I will recommend for whoever will read this review, to do not blink your eyes when this scene come.
The soundtrack and the sound design is really goated. If you watch it in the cinema, you'll know what I'm talking about. Every piece of OST that Kensuke Ushio made, does get into me. I can't describe how goated the sound design team are. Every explosion, the chainsaw revs, the footsteps, the environment, I felt like I was there witnessing the fight that is being put on the screen in front of me. It was that good.
The plot that is written by Tatsuki Goatjimoto is stellar. It was simple that most of the viewers watching it can get the whole message, albeit they probably can't fully interpret it. Aki is still Aki, Power is still a stinky gremlin, and Denji will always be my Denji. When the movie ended, I was left with a lingering piece of sadness that is hard to describe. Maybe like a what if. What if things could end differently, what if the situations that they experienced was a little bit better. It was hard to describe, that lingering feeling lasted like good two weeks. It was that depressing for me who knows what is going to happen, as a manga reader.
This is a full fan service with five-star meals, good atmospheric, and nice view for the manga readers like me. I just can't get enough of it. I will be waiting for that second season. My expectation is high and yet they still surpassed that high of a bar. Bravo for MAPPA and the whole team. MAPPA golden child is Chainsaw Man, and they show it with full force.
