I really wanted to like this manhwa, I somewhat enjoyed it at the start but as the series progresses it became so nonsensical it made me feel handicapped just for having read it.
I love horror/thrillers and for manhwa of this genre you shall have to suspend your disbelief to some degree to enjoy them, kind of goes for most if not all fiction honestly. This series however is extremely flagrant in it's complete disregard for your intelligence. Everything pushing this plot forward hinges on completely stupid strokes of luck and unluck in a very lazy, contrived fashion that makes you want to bash your skull in.
The antagonist is just some stupid stalker with zero motivation beyond being some edgy, mouth breathing mcguffin. Used to push the plot along and conveniently absolve the main character of their crimes at the end.
The latter half of the story is so unbelievably, nauseatingly bad it genuinely gave me a headache. The author is terrible at show don't tell, everything is written out for you quite literally as if you're a toddler, no doubt a show of the authors personal reading level and writing skills. I suppose asking more of him would be asking too much. I am going to delve deep into spoilers for things that happened past chapter 13, because this is where everything just really comes to a head for me and makes the series so unlikeable.
You get a cast of absolutely sociopathic morons shoved together into the last half for zero reason other to spur on some violence and melodrama all, and worst of all half of their motivations are so lazy, cliche or dumb often times all three together, that I found myself wondering why I'm even trying to finish this garbage. I would not be surprised to learn if this is where the story dips off for other readers as well it's just so insultingly stupid.
We have the mc discovered by a cop in the most ridiculous fashion ever, he just assumes the MC is the person wheeling out the nurse beneath who killed the cops brother. Which he's right, but to assume an absolute stickbug of a child, a child who was just incapacitated and bedridden in the hospital, has somehow kidnapped a serial killer stalker who looks to be 150 pounds heavier than the MC and about 4 feet taller. It's just stupid man it's dumb, it's aggravating to read.
Then the edgelord cop goes absolutely insane because oh nooo, his brother died, who gives a shit? The cop just absolutely crumbles mentally and finds three sociopaths stabbing each other to death in a water tower and decided to burn them alive in their for some illogical dumb ass reason that I can't even be bothered to recount but for the reviews sake I will summarize. "Durr death penalty not real so kill yourselves for me and I'll send you to prison anyways I'm bored now I've decided to bring you to death" or whatever that dumb ass said idec anymore.
Then we get some stupid ass duo tossed in that the author tries to weave into the story and "foreshadow" which lmao, I will touch on that foreshadow bit later anyways, this duo is like the epitome of cliches, every single cliche sociopath you see in manhwas and stuff, that's one of them. It's so lazy in fact, that reading his speech bubbles is headache inducing it's run on sentences and half thoughts that say a whole bunch of edgy ass nothing. It's Wattpad tier fanfiction adjacent drivel and his motivations, when you read them, are so fucking lazy and dumb man. I understand, that is the point of this character, he's a lazy, selfish killer, but it'd lazy as fuck to use every cliche in the book on this guy, and it's insulting to have has to sit through it. It makes me mad that the author put pen to paper and thought oh yeah man this is fire, this is ready to be published, I actually hate this author I want him gone. Retired and forced to never write again.
I'm not going to go into too much more detail about this, because I'd have to recount every bit of screentime given to this duo to rant and rave it and I don't honestly care to even do that. I am writing this review out of spite, but even spite can not fuel me enough to put myself through everything bad about this series again mentally bc it's all bad.
Anyways I keep going off on tangents I have nothing in mind other than hate as I write this so I am so sporadic in what points i bring up, I am writing on half thoughts and it's hard to follow which is ironic because that's what a majority of this series is spent doing. The action scenes are absolute trite, the author is using a visual medium but spends so much time just writing bullshit after bullshit, to push things along,. Which I'm glad he did, I'd hate to have to spend anymore time on this garbage than I already did, but I'm still obligated to call him out on his hack, lazy nature.
Okay, but back to the duo. The other half of the duo doesn't matter. Moving on!
The sociopath characters inner narration is used to circle jerk the MC and lazy explain stupid, nonsensical ass pulls that the author uses to inexplicably solve problems for himself. He writes himself into corners so often, I can't stress enough how aimless this story is it's so painfully blatant, and you will see why when I finish this rant!! This is barely even a review at this point it's just anger...
We get scenes where thought bubbles are just so weird I can't really explain them honestly I'm not skilled enough at writing and putting my thoughts and feelings to paper, but if you get to the last scene in the water tower you'll get a feel of what I'm saying. It's just almost as if the author is kind of using the speech bubbles to lazily narrate the story? They're lazily announcing what's happening it feels like fanfiction I mean it's just amateur as hell I don't what else to say about it, I'm struggling to describe it. Much like the author struggles to write.
The last two chapters of the series almost, ALMOST, ties things up to a point where I might call this manhwa palatable. Easier to digest and justify having read it, but it's so far removed from the actual manhwa that you've read that it's jarring. It's weird and kind of hard to bring yourself to care about it at all honestly, if you went into this series expecting this so called twist. Maybe you'd enjoy it more. It would make everything that feels so stupid, easier to accept so you can get to the pay off and some revenge and an actual destination to arrive too. I did not read this series with that in mind though, I didn't know what to expect and clearly the third rate either don't either. So here we are!
The final two chapters also kind of get ruined by the surrounding story, it's sandwiched between some stupid follow up with the ugly ass stalker character, she's bland as hell and uninspired it's the laziest and most unappealing character to have the series follow up with. Then there's this impossibly small gap in the walls that the mammoth of a woman is implied to escape through in the future which is just, it makes mad man it's so fucking dumb why??
Anyways Jesus Christ I keep going on rants, I can't help everything about this story is ass!! And here's why, the afterword with the author follow-up explains that he basically adlibbed this series and had only one theme and tiny piece of the story as an idea in his head and everything was written around that specifically it's very obvious with or without him admitting but I'm glad he did so I can say with definitive proof this story is half assed and lazy. I literally wrote this entire review because I suspected something like that was the case and having the author himself reaffirm my beliefs made me feel so vindicated. Thanks for reading this very awful review I'm sorry I put so little thought into it, I was fueled by spite and spite alone. As I finish typing this, it is 6am, I woke up early for this. I'm a professional hater.
