If you were hyped for this anime, you’ve probably heard some of its songs on the official Cosmic Princess Kaguya Youtube channel. Well, I was one of them who happened to stumble across their channel. Being a fan of music-themed anime, I knew I had to give it a try and listen to some of their uploaded MVs. When I listened to some of the MVs, they definitely captured my attention with their cheerful colors and stunning visuals. So, when the anime dropped on Netflix, of course I immediately rushed home, opened a bottle of Coca-Cola and was ready to enjoy the show.
I think the story of this anime is definitely solid. Iroha’s struggle with losing her passion for music, contrasted against the legend of Princess Kaguya, is a concept blooming with potential. This anime wants to portray this everyday joyful life, but sometimes reality just doesn't go the way we want.
The pacing issues are most noticeable in some of the VR scenes and VTuber arc. The VTuber arc rushes through Kaguya’s rise to fame. We didn't get to see what she struggled, how she built her audience, how she became famous overnight. Some scenes like the 3v3 tournament are kind of underwhelming. The rules are vague so sometimes I got a little bit confused. Even the final scene, where Kaguya dances before the moon’s attendants took her away, leaves questions unanswered. Despite these minor issues, the fast pace actually makes the anime feel lively from start to finish. Even if some parts are rushed or a bit confusing, the momentum keeps you hooked, and the excitement in the VR tournaments, the musical sequences makes up for the flaws. The visuals and music are constantly engaging, and the story never drags. There’s always something happening that keeps me invested. Overall, the pacing may stumble in a few spots, but it adds to the thrill and makes the whole experience feel energetic, fun, and impossible to stop watching.
The visuals of this anime are absolutely mindblowing. The colors are bright and vibrant, perfectly match the story and the energy of the music. Character designs are expressive and full of personality. Especially Kaguya’s tantrum toward Iroha and the crying face of Kaguya and Yachiyo, I laugh a few times because it was cute and funny. The animation shines during the dances( The stage where the trio dances reminds me of miku ). Even crowded streets in the VR, and the stadium (or temple, not sure lol) are beautiful and full of happy and colorful energy.
The music and the performances is the main reason why I'm so impressed with this anime. You see, I'm a music lover, so whenever there's music in an anime, I always feel a connection with the characters and the story, like the songs carry their emotions straight to me. So when they start singing, I was utterly amazed by all the performance and singing part in this anime. A tear almost went down from my eyes. The voice actor of Kaguya, Iroha and Yachiyo absolutely nailed their part. The soundtrack and voice acting elevate every scene, making the anime not just entertaining, but genuinely moving and immersive.
In the end it all comes down to this point, is it worth watching? Personally, I would recommend watching it if you love stunning art, energetic performances, or music anime. Even if you’re not particularly drawn to the visuals or performances, it's still a fun and relaxing anime that anyone can enjoy at anytime. For me, the visuals, music, and lively moments made it impossible for me to stop watching, and I'm sure you’ll feel the same way once you’ve finished it.
Edit: For those who wanna add the MVs, I just checked, its on Spotify now, just type the name of the anime and you can find it :)
