I've been reading csm for a damn long time now and its been a part of my life for 4 fucking years. I loved it so damn much because of its great representation of what it's like to be manipulated and abused, but to still manage to rise above that. The way Fujimoto depicts all the different ways that denji gets manipulated is such masterful writing, i mean he was literally willing to be makima's dog just so that she's let him touch her tits.

Anyway's since I've explained the major reasons of why i liked csm, I'll now explain why I ONLY like part 1 of the manga, which is called the "Public safety arc"

Part 1 is genuinely a fucking masterpiece, all the characters are so fun and interesting, and they all matter to the story one way or another. Even characters who appear for a few chapters manage to leave an impact, for example Himeno, Reze, Kishibe, Quanxi, etc.

Every character has sick-ass powers like; Reze being the bomb devil, Quanxi having insane strength and speed, Himeno being contracted with the ghost devil which allowed her to use it's invisible arm, Kishibe having insane combat sense due to his years of experience and crazy knife skills, etc.

They all had their roles and their personalities shined through the overall wackiness of the manga, which made it incredibly fun to read, it felt like a breeze because no matter how many chapters I read, Fujimoto would always find a way to surprise me.

The issues ALL start with part 2, from the get go I could INSTANTLY tell that a drop in quality was significant, part 2 starts with a completely different protagonist, denji basically becomes a fucking side character in HIS OWN STORY. I have so many issues with this because it literally felt like a fucking complete 180 to how part 1 of csm was written. Asa is so god damn different to denji it was such whiplash getting used to her personality and that's not even the worst part.

The real sad part is how annoying Asa as a character is, she's completely useless to the story, the only real thing that she adds to csm, is that Yoru the war devil uses her body as a vessel because she wants to defeat chainsaw man. Even the whole idea of Yoru manipulating Asa into wanting to defeat chainsaw man (until who could've guessed, Asa falls in love with denji) doesn't work because it just means that Asa our supposed NEW PROTAGONIST is a literal idiot that's being manipulated FOR NO REASON. When denji was being manipulated it was because he was a broken abused and lonely teenager who just wanted social interaction, friends, a family, and of course a girlfriend.

Another aspect of part 2 that pisses me off is that part 2 feels wacky but not in a fun way, it feels wacky in a, woah what fuck is going on I'm barely understanding what's happening kinda way. It's just so rushed because none of the villain's mange to strike fear into your heart, none of them have any goals (besides Yoru's idiotic goal of defeating chainsaw man in order to turn him into a weapon) all of the devils that they fight are so underwhelming.

For example; the fight with the falling devil was utter ass, I genuinely felt like I was on ecstasy while reading it because for the life of me I could not understand what was happening, it was so damn confusing, the paneling was bad and the flow of the fight was atrocious too.

On the note of the paneling being bad, we need to talk about fujimoto's art degrading all throughout part 2, I've seen people try and defend him for his art skills getting worse, but most of the panels where chainsaw man is drawn are so damn chicken scratchy, i felt like I was looking through a fucking 10th grades sketchbook.

Another thing that pissed me off was the whole chainsaw man church thing, that shit was so fucking dumb, like ok i get it, fujimoto wanted to give Yoru a reason to try to attack denji because he'd be weaker if everybody loved him, which is why he decided to create the whole chainsaw man church arc, but WHY did he have to make it so corny, it felt like a god damn SITCOM.

Ok now that I've done most of my ranting, time to talk about the worst most deplorable thing this part has done, its officially time to talk about how denji doesn't act like denji anymore. There are many examples of how he changes but not for the better for instance, he literally let Nayuta fucking DIE just because he wanted to let Asa jack him off, LIKE BRO SERIOUSLY? Part 1 denji would not be that trash. another example is how he genuinely considers to just give up on everything when he was stuck in the Age devils crazy timeless prison, the old denji would never do that, he always had the motivation to continue no matter what he went through.

I've more or less talked about all of the issues I have with part 2, the only thing I haven't ranted about yet is the ending, holy shit the fucking ending, what can I even say that hasn't been said already. The ending is a damn slap in the face to all the fans who've loved it for years like me, it genuinely broke my heart to see how trash it is. If by some miracle you don't know what the ending is; its basically just a whole time reset where almost all the events of the manga don't happen in the first place. for example, denji never meet's reze, he never meets pochita etiher, etc.
