I really loved this anime and it quickly rose up the ranks in how much I loved it. It deals with things such as depression, bullying, etc. I was really sad at some points and almost quit at the 20 minute mark because of how the main character was treating Nishimya. I don't regret continuing it and it is definitely an anime to re-watch, it was a series of ups, downs, lefts and rights leaving you with nothing but your own thoughts till the end. Although some people didn't like the fact that it didn't have the same pacing as the manga and left some stuff out, but there is only so much you can do with 2 hours of run time.
Movies like this one should NOT be slept on and it's not the type of casual anime I'd throw on the TV eating popcorn. It's more of a cherish-able moment that require no distractions whatsoever. Despite me praising Koe No Katachi so much, I would not say it's my favorite anime of all time. It lacks what I call ''Hype moments'' that a lot of shonen lovers appreciate but that is fine. In fact, this would ruin A silent voice to every end. Anyway, I actually did like this anime movie better than Your Name even though most would disagree. Kimi No Nawa did not make me cry and this did. Does that mean that cry=better anime? No, not at all. All I'm saying is that I felt a deeper emotional connection with A silent voice than with Your Name.
Well, how about talking about a bit of the story and character development. As Ishida develops as a person he realizes his actions were out of line and therefore feels guilty about all of the bullying he did when he was younger. He now has to live with himself after the fact and decides to try to do good actions towards Nishimya to (kind of) undo his actions in a way. Towards the end (SPOILER ALERT), he ends up saving her at the cost of severe injuries though leaving the audience thinking he is dead. In this act we see the complete turn around as a person from his younger self to now, a very real, very good person. I sometimes got frustrated with his actions until putting myself in his own shoes and seeing it from his perspective. At times, his world seemed to be falling apart and other times, life seemed like such a gift. An example of this is when he symbolically took the ''X's'' off of peoples faces and looked at them directly. Another beautiful moment as the viewer.
Alright so that'll wrap it up for me, just go watch it and experience it for yourself.
