The movie starts off with a slightly confusing phenomenon which gets explored as the movie goes on. Two unique characters both belonging to their own different worlds experiencing the others' lives. A beautiful journey of influencing each other and falling in love, while having the mystery and suspense of the world. The plot almost plays with your emotions as the characters are easy to get attached to. The search for someone that's missing from your life to complete it, the feeling of falling in love yet being so distant and unable to express, that heart wrenching feeling of missing the person you love yet not knowing how to reach them. It takes you through a beautiful ride making you love the characters more and more as the story goes on. Taki's search and determination and Mitsuha's steadfast belief to change her fate so she can meet that certain someone she loves once again one more time is awe inspiring.
The direction makes the plot lifelike pulling at your heart while the voice acting brings the characters a personal touch and makes them so lovable and relatable. The music blends in so perfectly making you feel the moments and makes it like a beautiful symphony narrating the emotions of the characters.
A real masterpiece of a movie and a roller coaster of emotions. Has the depth of typical Makoto Shinkai movies and tugs at your heart. There are moments where it makes you feel hollow and within minutes, fulfilling and satisfying and this ride keeps going on from start to end.
Love the characters and chemistry between Mitsuha and Taki. Just wish they would have been able to remember everything and confess at the end but the ending was a typical Makoto Shinkai style so kind of expected.
Many a times when the concept of timelines gets added, the main purpose of the plot gets lost or even twisted yet here there is clarity and purpose. The writing, direction, art, voice acting and music were all perfect for me. Special shout out to Radwimps for all the amazing songs. Nandemonaiya, Sparkle and zen zen zense are some of my favorite Japanese songs and Radwimps has since become one of my 3 favorite bands.
To conclude, definitely a must watch movie and highly recommended. As I mentioned previously, not as a complaint but as a wish, that I would have loved it if they remembered each other's names and confessed but the ending leaves that to the imagination of the readers which is a positive for many as well while a craving for more for others like me. Probably my favourite anime movie of all time and a master piece personally for me at least.
