I always find so annoying when some anime pretends to be more than they actually are. This is not the case with this one. The story doesn't pretend to be more than It is. It builds expectation and enjoyment from the little things and, from time to time, it gets a little repetitive (as most things do), but it's such an easy story to follow that those moments pass and you focus on the important events.
The overall story this season is very straight forward, there are some "major reveals", but again it's a simple anime, so those reveals are not such surprises, which is not a bad thing, in this case, I don't watch this anime to form theories, I watch it to have fun and be amused by the things that happen on the screen.
The characters are a little generic, but they work well together, it makes us believe that they have real relationships, and not just some badly written interactions (although those happen as well). I love the main character, I am a huge fan of the wholesome, naive, "wants to save everyone" protagonist, with simple goals and objectives. The secondary characters serve their purpose, like for example, there are a lot of gods that know each other for a long time, and they get along well, and the interactions between them make sure that we understand that, so we never mistake friendship for something else. The antagonist is somewhat the most mysterious character this season, we don't know the motivations, why they execute certain plans (which gives the anime the mystery it needs to hold your attention). But there is one character that promises a lot, and that is Hermes,
The only thing that truly annoys me is the fan service or ecchi, which I get, I understand why it's there, but sometimes it's so absurd that I completely forget about what's happening, and I had to work towards ignoring it completely, so it is a major setback (for me). And it happens a lot, so you guys, be prepared for it to happens every 5 minutes or so. But don't feel bad if you can't keep watching it, I almost gave up in the beginning, but as it happens for most things in life, I got used to ignoring it and I was able to finish this season. I hope they decrease the ecchi in the next season (a hopeless wish I know).
I recommend this anime if you are looking for some mindless enjoyment, with some nice animated fight scenes and simple character arcs. Simple is not always a bad thing.
