There are only two Sherlock adaptions I've seen before Yuukoku no Moriarty - BBC's Sherlock and Warner Bros. Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr. With that being said, it was quite refreshing to see how the focus of this show was implied on Moriarty and his past for the first episodes. I found myself empathizing with the Moriarty trio, although I knew what they were doing wasn't necessarily the "right" thing to do (but what is right or wrong anyway). As time passes, we get to see how much potential (and..power?) this trio actually holds. We get to follow their thoughts as they plan their "perfect crimes"; their steps towards what they presume to be a "better future". I personally found it very interesting to watch their very well thought-through plans come to life.
All in all I really enjoyed the main cast and the stories told around them. There's still a lot to unpack when it comes to characters with less screentime (such as Albert Moriarty), but I have a lot of hope for this to be part of the second season.
As expected, the relationship between Sherlock and Moriarty plays a crucial part in this series as well. It's very interesting (I'm probably overusing this word, my apologies xD) to watch their dynamic; to see how they both realize they found their counterpart; someone on their eye level. The picture below, a screenshot from the opening, captures this perfectly. They might have different ways and use different methods, but in the end, they are equal.

There is one thing I've been wanting to talk about ever since I started noticing it. The colors, especially red, blue, yellow, and green (all primary colors) seem to be of importance in the visual story Yuukoku no Moriarty is trying to tell. Although I haven't completely cracked the code yet; here are a few things I noticed.(I might be reading way too much into this, but I still had fun coming up with theories :D)
Now, putting all my color theories aside - in my opinion, Yuukoku no Moriarty is a very solid visual performance. That's all I have left to say. Nothing outstanding, but solid.

I can't talk about this soundtrack without mentioning that the opening, "Dying Wish" by Tasuku Hatanaka, was the reason I got interested in Moriarty the Patriot in the first place. There hasn't been one episode where I skipped it, and I still love it.
Besides the opening, I didn't notice anything spectacular soundtrack wise. But maybe that's the point. If you don't notice the music is there, it might be just perfectly fitting. Or, in some cases, there simply no music at all. Those were the moments that stood out to me the most - in a positive way. I really liked how silence was used as a very effective tool to create a certain atmosphere.

I don't think there's much left to say. I personally really enjoyed Yuukoku no Moriarty, and I think a lot of other people will as well. The only thing I didn't like was the ending song (I have...questions). I am looking forward to season 2!22.5 out of 23 users liked this review
