"Don't you dare look down! Volleyball is a sport where you're always looking up!"
HAHAHA....So it seems that my middle school volleyball knowledge has finally returned. That's right guys, I am what you call a veteran hehehe. At first, I wasn't sure if the reason why I fell in love with this show so much was because I was obsessed with volleyball when I was like 12, or the fact that I am also what you would consider to be a short person. But watching this show the third time around, I have come to the conclusion that the reason I am in frickin love this show so much is because it's simply good. Allow me to give you a summary of the set up for this wild ride.
In Haikyuu we follow Hinata Shoyo (the tiny orange hair guy) as he finds his passion for Volleyball. It begins when he spots a volleyball player from Karasuno highschool on the local sports channel, Hinata notices that like himself this player also short, hence the name he was given by many the "Tiny Giant." Of course, Hinata finds himself inspired by this and begins his quest to learn and join Karasuno's volleyball team where he can become the Ace (the guy who pow pows the volleyball) just like the Tiny Giant. And thus begins the story.
NOWW the reason why this show is just SO goddamn enjoyable in my opinion isn't mainly because of the plot itself, which is fairly simple. It's because of all of the wonderful characters we were given and the realistic plays. Just lemme tell ya, I really did feel like I was back in the court again watching this show only with even more anxiety. I seem to care about these games more than I ever cared for my lousy middle school games. I was legit wheezing through these games I was so invested. They're so freaking epic. Not only that, watching this show I learned even MORE about volleyball and all of the strategies. I was constantly thinking, wow I should have done that back in my time, or hey that's smart as heck. Yeah, ya get it.
The character development in and interaction in this show is insane. Of course to a degree it's all really cheesy but for some reason, these characters begin to show a little more personality than I was expecting. They all seem like one big family, and it wasn't just thrown at us either, they take their time and I respect that. Each and every one of the characters in this show has a story, yes that's right.....all of them, even when they're from other teams. There pretty much isn't an enemy or true "bad guy" in this show. That's because the anime displays them for what they are: highschool students with a love for volleyball and an ugly dedication to win. I admit that the characters alone make the anime worth watching. It's a huge plus that I also can't really find a single character I can find annoying.
The show also takes on many topics that I don't see too often in the sports genre. Which is why I really grew attached to this show. I find the passion and will that everyone seems to be drenched with to be absolutely beautiful. Haikyuu is obviously a motivational and feel good anime, I'm not kidding, watching it makes me want to get out of my bed and go take on the world or some bs. It's just THAT good.
Even if you don't like sports anime I 100% recommend this one. I'm also not to fond of really sports anything it feels like, I've tried other sport's anime's but this is the only that I truly stuck to. But after watching Haikyuu I seem to almost have some sort of respect for sports now. Honestly, if your ever just sad or depressed just put this on, I swear you'll cheer up in a heart beat.
I am giving Season 1 of Haikyuu a
9.3/10.0 anime scale
8.3/10.0 film scale
Overall, I fucking loved it! Check it out:)>
