Karasuno has qualified for the spring nationals for the first time in a decade. Before the team can leave for Tokyo, two of its first-years are siphoned off for specialized training: Kageyama to the All-Japan Youth Camp for the country's top setters, and Tsukishima to a Miyagi rookie select group. Hinata, neither invited nor willing to be left behind, walks himself into the Miyagi camp as a free agent and spends a week as the ball boy who refuses to stop watching practice. The arc is the gap each one of them tries to close before they meet at nationals.
