Komi Can’t Communicate

Shouko Komi is the legend of her high school freshman year: tall, graceful, unreadable, surrounded by a permanent ring of admirers who never quite manage to talk to her. Hitohito Tadano is the boy who happened to draw the desk next to hers. He realizes within his first week that Komi isn't aloof — she is so severely socially anxious that even saying her own name is an ordeal — and quietly volunteers as the friend she has never had. The series is his ongoing project to get her to a hundred friends, and the small triumphs that compound along the way.
