MAO

Mao has been alive since the late Heian period, when a curse from his arranged fiancée bound him to his current twenty-something appearance. Nine hundred years later he is still an onmyoji, still cursed, still hunting the malevolent spirit that ruined the life he was supposed to have. The trapdoor he is investigating in early-twentieth-century Tokyo accidentally swallows Nanoka Kiba, a contemporary middle-schooler whose parents were killed in an accident at the same arcade as a child. She arrives in Mao's century with a question of her own to ask, and the curse that bound him recognizes hers.
