Aki Tomoya runs a small doujin circle with the people he can least afford to have in his life: the literary novelist Utaha, the prodigy illustrator Eriri, and the producer Michiru, all of whom are tolerating each other only because Aki is convinced they can make a visual novel together. The girl whose perspective he keeps trying to write — the unremarkable, ordinary-looking heroine he meets on a hillside on the first day of spring — is his classmate Megumi Kato, and Saekano is the running comedy of Aki noticing that the heroine he is designing in fiction is already, somehow, the only stable person in his life.
