After Story picks up Tomoya and Nagisa's relationship out of the high-school years that defined them. They graduate. Tomoya joins an electrician's crew and feels useful for the first time. Nagisa, whose chronic illness has held her back from a steady year of school in her life, finally finishes drama studies and starts looking for work she can do without collapsing. The series follows them building a small life together — a one-room apartment, an unplanned pregnancy, a winter neither of them is prepared for — and what comes after the day they had been told to brace for from the start.
