Neo-Tokyo, 2019, three decades after the bomb that ended the third world war. Tetsuo Shima is the smallest, most teased member of a biker gang led by his oldest friend Kaneda. He crashes his bike one night avoiding a child the military has just lost track of — a child whose face is older than it should be and whose psychic field bent the road around the impact. The army takes Tetsuo to study. What comes back out has Kaneda's name on its lips and the same expanding gift the army has spent thirty years trying to contain. The city has a few hours.
