Okabe Rintarou rents a cluttered Akihabara apartment and calls it the Future Gadget Laboratory. The gadgets are mostly broken; the lab members are his sweet childhood friend Mayuri and a hacker named Daru who lives on energy drinks. The microwave that text-messages bananas turning into green sludge is just a joke until they notice that the messages it sends arrive in the past.
