THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS!! (No manga spoilers, you’re good :D)
CHARACTERS:
Many characters were introduced; From Sonju and Mujika who assisted Enma and the first set of escaped children and the people who escaped with Norman on the Lambda farm to the many faces of the kids who were assisted with escape after Emma and the others went back to Grace Field to save them. Sonju and Mujika played major roles in the story and from them we learn about the past of the world and how it led to demons producing humans for their brunch.
The design is nothing to nut about but I did like the design on Sonju. He looked pretty cool to me.
ART / ANIMATION:
The animation is very good. The animation doesn't even deserve this anime! CloverWorks seriously went bonkers on this. I liked it. Maybe nothing to gag about but for me it’s easy to differentiate what’s going on in one scene and the next (cough which is sometimes difficult for other anime cough). Very good props to them for that.
STORY:
Good lord this story is horrible. I think what the animators and the author wanted to avoid was any tragedy. Enma was very naive and it felt like the animators gave her a magic lamp and told her she is granted infinite wishes.
Enma: “I want to be able to eat food all day!”
Author & Head Director: “Your wish is my command!!”
Enma: “I kinda fw the demons now can we not kill em’?”
Author & Head Director: “ye good”
Enma: “ Let’s go rescue everyone at the farms! They needa’ learn how to be nice with the demons.”
Author & Head Director: “ok, ok.”
Enma had nobody die to her naivete wishes. Everything she wanted happened. Nobody died. All the lore in the series died.
Bald guy contacts the gatekeeper and tells him he has info about the plan Enma and the others had to sneak back to the farm and is willing to exchange.
gives him a fake plan and they manage to get all the way to the gate and where the gatekeeper is residing.
Demons anticipate the attack and shoot down some hot air balloons.
NOBODY IS ON THE HOT AIR BALLOONS THEY ARE JUST EMPTY.
As much as I loved the first season the second season did not cut it. No lore, no death, nothing.
Many manga readers said the manga ending was bad and hoped the anime did it better.
Nope.
This was made much worse. This makes the whole series look shit. Go watch S1 then read manga, I am saying this for your own sake.
SOUND:
I don’t really pay attention to OST or the background music in-between critical moments in the anime but in the last episode I really did.. AND IT SLAPPED.
OST and opening and ending really carried this anime. I promise you’ll enjoy this opening and ending.
Most people say (on different anime btw).. “Oh, opening slapped but ending is bad. Trash.” But both OP and ED equally slapped. Gonna put that ED in my spotify playlist later.
ENDING:
This was the worst part. The ending was a 1 ½ minute powerpoint presentation that skipped over MANY MANY things and SPOILED THE MANGA.
THIS IS HORRIBLE.
Buttt it was kind of good to see grown up phil and to see what happened after Enma made another naive claim. Not gonna lie here..
They could have ended S2 with a major cliffhanger then save all of the other stuff for S3 but nah.
THOUGHTS:
This was a very horrible adaptation. I was very very hype for S2 of TPN and all of our hops were wrapped into a box and thrown down the grand canyon. I can’t believe the clover works director saw the scripts and said “yeah this good publish this shit.”
DO NOT watch this if you want to be spoiled.
Watch Season 1 then read manga. This is the safest option.
SCORE:
I’ll add and subtract from HOW I enjoyed this adaptation. (P.S The number after I subtract and add DOES NOT represent the score I rate this as.)
-2: Shitty powerpoint ending
-2: Enma Naivete (basically getting what she wanted like a spoiled brat.)
-1: Broken Lore
+2: Good use of shadows and pan to have SOME good cliffhangers. (only to get solved or nothing happen in the next episode.)
+3: BANGER OP/ED/SOUND
+1: Character design
-2: bad pace (I didn’t even read the manga and I knew things were going fast.
WRAP UP:
Honestly this wasn’t a pretty bad adaptation. At-least there was a banger OP/END/SOUND and the story made sense. Lots of things were not accounted for and many things were neglected which pissed off some fans. Overall this was a decent adaptation. Let's hope another company picks this up and does this series justice. You can do what you want. Either watch S1 and S2 Or watch S1 and read manga. Up to you.
