When I first saw the trailer I was incredibly put off and honestly disappointed as I love the manga and was hoping it would get the full adaptation treatment. After watching it I was not disappointed.
The adaptation is very true to the manga... maybe a little too much but its manga panel style and simple animation worked very well for the punch lines and the excentric poses of Tatsu the immortal dragon. By the end of the first episode, I was hardly paying attention to the animation at all and was just enjoying the ride and laughing through the hilarious moments. All of the jokes landed and translated very well into this form and I would like to believe the animation helped them land alongside the amazing voice acting. Kenjirou Tsuda who voiced Tatsu and also played him in the live-action version is perfect for the role. His voice was just how I imagined Tatsu to sound and even better. Not to mention the voice acting made lots of the jokes that much funnier! The OP and ED are perfect for the Yakuza aesthetic and fit the over-the-top intense and hilarious tone of Way of the Househusband. Uchikubi Gokumon Doukoukai did a perfect job on the Opening and Ending. Some extra little bonus points I wanna give the show, They included the short stories of Gin the cat and they made a theme song for all the moments that Policure the anime was mentioned! The animation can be a little rough and is far from perfect and had some pretty ugly frames but it still manages to capture the energy and powerful aura of a yakuza specifically Tatsu the immortal dragon. It might not be for everyone but I watched it all with my friends and we were laughing and enjoying almost every moment! Hmm, maybe you critics need friends to watch this with haha!! I think at the very least give the animated adaptation of Way of the househusband a chance so more people can get a true taste of Tatsu the immortal Dragon. If the animation didn't do it for you and you found some sort of joy I HIGHLY RECCOMEND you give the manga a chance! I promise this series will pull some laughs from you!! Each episode is around 17 minutes and there are only 5 episodes with a total run time of about 1.48 hours so this makes this a quick and very binge-able show! If you are looking for something to relax to and get some easy laughs Way of the househusbands 5 episode Netflix adaption is perfect!
I'm giving this a high score because I genuinely enjoyed it regardless of how little animation the adaptation featured. Way of the househusband is the perfect anime to relax and expect a ton of laughs from and It still really holds up!!
GIVE IT A SHOT ANIKI
